Merry Christmas, Everyone!

Merry Christmas, everyone!

We want to thank all of our friends that have sent us such beautiful cards and Holiday wishes.  We appreciate the prayers as well.  Grammy is getting better, though still having some trouble with her breathing (asthma).

We really miss everyone, but think about you often and Grammy says prayers for you all, too!  God be with you all this coming year!

We Are Entering our Friend, Rudy’s, Contest…

Rudy, from “Rudy’s Life…as a Guide Dog in Training” is having a Holiday Giveaway/Contest! There will be prizes for Dogs AND for people! You can go HERE to read the complete blog about this…

Here is a summary of the Prizes, Contest and Rules by Rudy:
Instead of picking the winners at random... my raiser will be picking the 5+ best contest entries - then letting her family pick the 2 grand winners of my contest!

Giveaway One: Dog Fun Pack (pics on their blog)
The Dog Fun Pack will include a leopard squeaker "mat" dog toy (a stuffed toy with SIXTEEN squeakers in it!), a set of 3 puppy face squeaker dog toys, some store bought treats AND homemade dog treats straight from our kitchen (won't be made 'til right before the prize is sent out), and maybe some other surprises along the way!

Giveaway Two: Humans Only
The humans only prize includes a very cute cooking apron; my raiser does owns one - and would wear it to town if she could! This would be the perfect addition to your kitchen; and you could even cook your furry cute fella a dog treat or two! My raiser also may include some of her homemade Goat Milk Soap (which would be dog themed), but more on that later though.

Rules by my furry cool Raiser:
1. In order to be entered in 1 or both giveaways all you need to do is write a very short poem that is Christmas/Holiday & DOG (or pet) themed!

**Please note the poem can be AS SHORT or AS LONG as you want! It won't change you chance of winning!**

2. Once you write the poem (long or short) please either post it in a comment on THIS POST or email it to me at guidedogawareness AT yahoo DOT com (please make sure to include your blog address in the email) Rudy would still love for you to leave a comment on this post!

Please note in the comment you leave on this post (with your poem or without) what prize pack you'd like to win (either or both!). By writing a poem & entering it in this contest you can be entered into BOTH contest prizes - or you can choose to just be entered into one. But please note that in the comment!! (Whether you'd like to be entered in the Dog Lovers Pack, the Humans Only pack, or BOTH)

PLEASE pass this post along; publish the information on your blog & let all your blogging pals know! We want Rudy's first Holiday Giveaway to be a huge hit! Please be sure to read the rest of the rules, etc. on Rudy’s Blog!

The Contest started 12-1-2010 and will be ending on 12-15-2010.

That said, we got together with Grammy and came up with this little poem for our entry. See what you think…

A Country Corgi Christmas Feast
 By Linda Brock © 12-5-10

The Country Corgis got together
To plan their Christmas Feast
For as everyone knows,
Food is very important to these “solid” little beasts!

OC, the Matriarch of our country clan,
Suggested Jerky Treats or a few small “Piggy ear” hams,
While Mercy said there must be mashed potatoes,
And maybe some dried, chewy yams…

Gimli offered, “I’ve got some rawhide
That’s been buried, aged and mellowed…
It’s like stinky cheese,
That’s striped and turning yellow!”

“Carrots are a must,”
Drooled Pip, with a dreamy sigh
“And a horse hoof crust
on horse apple pie!”

BG quietly talked to Auntie Sadie a while…
And finally said, with a shy smile…
We’re providing an aged squirrel
To add to this, tasty pile!

Dott sat and quietly thought
About what she could possibly bring
And finally she brightened up
As she thought of the perfect thing!

As everyone joined their paws
‘Round the best corgi Feast you ever saw,
Dott thanked her Father God above,
For giving His Son, the sign of His Love!

Proof of Fairies by Robert Brock

A short video that Robert “found” showing proof of “Fairies” and their love for corgi steeds, starring one of "Dott's Ancestors..."

P.S. Grammy was back in the hospital last night having major trouble breathing (Asthma). She is home and doing better now on the medications they gave her. She had been very sick with Bronchitis for a little over a week. Please pray for her to get over this bout.

Thanks, so much! by Pippin

I want to thank all of you for your prayers for Papa. We went and got him this afternoon, and he is home tonight! I was dancing for joy!

Ok... so it's an old video, but it fit...

Grammy says that the test results aren't fully in, but the ones that did come in, say that he is not in an "urgent" situation. They gave him medicines for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and to thin his blood some, and put him on a cardiac diet. Grandma OC says she doesn’t like the sound of THAT cause the word “diet” NEVER means something good!

He has to see his regular people vet as soon as possible, and his heart vet next week for the rest of his results, and to figure out what comes next. Grammy says he HAS been under a lot of stress lately… I’m just glad he is home!

His chest still twinges a bit and they did see the skip in the heartbeats while they were doing the tests, but Grammy feels a bit better that now they will be watching him. Thanks again, everyone. We are Praising God around here, for His answers to all of our (and your) prayers.

Owwwoooooo! By Pippin

Papa’s been in the Horse Spit All the past couple of days cause his chest was hurting. They are running a lot of tests. GrandPaw Robert is taking Grammy over every day, so we (Auntie Sadie, Gimli, Mercy & me) have been here alone all day everyday this week so far.

Grandma OC, Uncle BG & Mama Dott have been going to Mimi’s so that Grandma OC can be helped outside when she needs to go potty. We are so sad. I’m just spending my time laying on Papa’s pillow and missing him… Please pray for him and keep him in your thoughts.

Good News and Bad News…

First, the Good News! We had been visiting with Sugar the Golden Retriever, on her blog, and found out that she and her Mom make DOG COOKIES and treats! We finally got Grammy to go to Sugar’s Paw House and get US some COOKIES!

We were so excited, when she got them ordered, and we could hardly wait until she got the box opened when they got here!WOW! Look at ALL THE GOODIES!

First, we tried some of the Veggie Hearts. They are all natural, with lots of good things in them, and wheat free! These had apple sauce, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, apple pieces and carrots. They were pretty good!

Then we tried the Pumpkin Bones…

They were good, too! They have rice, pumpkin (of course), cinnamon, ginger, and dried eggs with some other good stuff. They smelled good, too!

Unca BG pouted until he got seconds on those! Grammy has trouble resisting sad eyes… which CAN work toward our advantage.

I kept nudging the bag with the Apple Bites in it and Grammy finally pulled it out!

The others were good, but THESE were our favorites! Grandma OC scooted herself across the room so she could be next to Grammy after she got a taste of those Apple Bites!

They have oatmeal, applesauce, apple bits, molasses, dried eggs, and cinnamon with some other good, healthy stuff too! They were little, and light, and Grammy says they will be just right for training treats.

Here is Pippin, sneaking one of Unca BG’s when he went after one that rolled.

He grabbed a few and then took them away from where everyone else was (on the other side of OC’s fence) and guarded his treasure!

He is a BRAT that way… We waits until everyone else is done with there’s and all eyes are on HIM, and then he eats and looks at us like “Don’t you wish YOU still had some?!” He takes after Mama Dott that way…

Unca BG wanted to stay close to Grammy where the handouts were, but even he backed off a bit with Miss Mercy came in to get hers! She can get pretty nasty sometimes!

Those Apple Bites smelled so good that Grammy even tried one… but she says they are a bit hard on her teeth…

Sugar was even so sweet that she gave us some extra treats! Thanks Sugar, and Mom! You made our day!

Now for the bad news… Grammy has been trying to do too much lately, and we’ve caught her crying about it. The holidays are coming up and things are really stacking up, and she is “just getting too much on her plate” as she puts it. Now, too much on OUR plates is always a good thing… in fact, HOW can you get TOO much on your plate?

Anyway, we are sad, but have come to the decision to stop blogging… at least for a while… so that Grammy doesn’t have to help us with that. We will try to get around to our friend’s blogs whenever we can, but for now, we are going to quit bugging Grammy and give her a little break. We know that all of you love your people, and will understand. So for now, we love all of you and wish you the best over the Howlodays! The Country Corgi Crew…

The Old Bear Bed and Breakfast by Pippin

We just looked through our old posts and realized that we never shared our trip to the Old Bear Bed and Breakfast! We mentioned that we were going, but then things came up when we got back, like that tongue contest, and we never got to share our pictures and the fun we had on Grammy and Papa’s anniversary trip.

We were so excited when Grammy talked to the lady and found out that they accepted dogs and that THREE of us could go! We got all packed up and drove for about an hour and got way up in the mountains! There were so many trees to smell that we could hardly wait to get out of the car!

Finally, we got there and met David and their two dogs, Heidi, a beautiful husky/shepherd mix, and … (Hmmm...I can’t remember…) a Dalmatian mix.

Papa and Grammy talked to David for a while, and then he showed Papa up to our room, while Grammy got Grandma OC and us out and into their backyard so we could play and sniff around.

There were squirrels in the big trees, and a really strange smell that we learned later was a big black bear that had rummaged through their trashcans the day before!

We had a lot of fun running around in their yard, and checking out their place, including their outdoor spa. David came out and talked with Grammy and Papa while we ran and played.

After a while, we went up to the room, where Papa had taken our bags. It was called the Cowboy Room and had a Western theme. Maxine, the lady of the house, is very artistic and has done a beautiful job of decorating the whole house. Grammy was truly enchanted!

Grammy had brought one of our quilts to put on OUR side of the big bed so that we could lay up there without getting hair on their beautiful quilts. We shared the big bed with Papa, while Grammy used the smaller bed.

We relaxed there for a while, and then got in the car and drove a few blocks away to a restaurant, where Grammy and Papa had a really good dinner. They even brought us out some pieces of steak!

Another couple came in and they had two dogs with them, too. One was named Colonel Mustard and he was a big pit/mastiff mix from the looks of him, and his sister was a tiny little Yorkie! Colonel Mustard was also a helper dog and would fetch things for his master and open and close doors, too. Grammy didn’t get any pictures of them, though.

Later, a couple from France came in, and we met them in the morning. The lady spoke mostly French, but she was a retired nurse for severely handicapped children, so Grammy and her had something in common, and Grammy enjoyed talking to her. Grammy really loves the homey feeling of a Bed and Breakfast that has friendly people running it!

We went back to the B&B and had OUR dinner and then went to bed. The next morning, we got up and Grammy took us outside for a potty trip. We played for a little bit with the dog toys that they have out there for their guest’s dogs. I really TOLD their squirrel toy!

Then we went back in and got Papa up and he came out and played with us for a bit.

After that, they went into the dining room and had a wonderful  breakfast. It sure SMELLED good!!!  Grammy told us that the lady had made a wonderful Omelet casserole with ham and cheese, onions, and bell pepper.

There were Toasted English Muffins, Fried Hash Browns, and a WONDERFUL compote (Grammy called it) with a flaky crust on the bottom, a layer of warm peach jam, fresh fruit and then yogurt on the top. Grammy thought it was “heavenly!” (They had asked the night before about allergies, likes and dislikes, etc.) Grandma OC got to go into the dining room with them.

It was really cute the way that Heidi followed her Mom around and had eyes only for her!

We enjoyed ourselves SO MUCH!!! Lots of people come up there from all over Southern and Central California and now we know why! It’s wonderful there,  the people are so friendly, and best of all, WE get to go, too! Grammy says they want to go again sometime soon!!!
