Guess What Papa saw! by Pippin

Papa and Little Bear went into town today without me!  They said I needed to stay home and keep an eye on Grammy.  After church, they went to the walking path in town and guess what they saw!!??!!

Do you think that was FAIR???

Papa’s Tribute to Grandma OC (as told to Pippin)

OC, or Ornery Cuss, earned her name by the way she treated her brother as a puppy, and she lived up to it her entire life.  (She's the one on the left of her Mama, Mist) As a puppy, she was taken to Grammy’s Special Needs class, and showed great potential as a service dog from the way she acted around the kids, so we decided to raise her, and then donate her to a Helper Dog Group that used a Corgi  in their Logo.  We contacted them, but they only took large breeds, and since, by then she had wormed her way into our lives and hearts, we decided to keep her.

OC loved “road trips” where Papa, Grammy, and her Momma, Misty, would take long trips over the summer in the 18 wheeler that Papa drove going to Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Northern California.  She missed these trips after Papa got a local job, but still went everywhere in the car with her people.

Two years ago, she got to go on her last “Big Truck Road Trip,” as Papa’s company built a trailer for overseas, and Papa got to take it to Jacksonville, Florida to be shipped.

She spent 10 days going coast to coast in a Big Rig with a Walk-In sleeper, with Grammy, Papa, her son BG and two grandsons, Gimli and me (Pippin).   All her other trips had been in a truck with just a sleeper berth.

She got to “lay over” in Houston, Texas, on the way back, when Grammy and Papa visited with their grandkids.
The Lord knew what He was doing when He allowed us to keep OC, as she did become a Helper/Service dog for Grammy.   After Grammy was injured at work and had to retire, OC worked at picking up and fetching when Grammy could not.  She also herded the goats for them until an old billy goat crushed her against a wall and hurt her hips.

During her last years, this caused her to be in a “wheelchair” that Grammy’s son, Robert, built out of P V C pipe and Rollers. With this, she could still run around the property with the rest of us doing “squirrel patrol,” which meant checking every place where something could hide and then chasing it if something came out.

Her last months, when she could not even walk in her wheelchair, were spent keeping track of Grammy and the other people she loved, laying on a bed near them, always watching everything with her “bright eyes. “

She also loved going camping in the Travel Trailer, with all the new places to smell and dogs to bark at, while still being with her loved ones.

She really enjoyed her last trip with us when she got to go to her first Corgi Picnic.  This was my tribute to you, OC girl.   I will miss your head on my leg on trips…  Papa (as told to Pippin—Papa’s Pup)

Goodbye, Mama OC…

We are very sad around here. Grandma OC went to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon at about 1:30 p.m. We will miss her...

My Dearest OC,

I love you with all my heart. I was there when you were born, and watched you grow and learn to be the wonderful helper dog you were to me throughout your life. You've been there for me all these years, loving me and helping me when I couldn't do so many things for myself. When you went down into your wheelchair and then into being totally bedridden these past several months, I was happy to be able to give back a little of the care you gave me.
When the Big C made it hard for you to breathe this past week and the Seizure Monster came to call last night, I knew it was time, so today I took you to the Bridge so you can go to your Mama Mist and Daddy Bud and all the other friends that have gone ahead of you.

No more trouble breathing... no more pain. Run and play, chase squirrels and rabbits and enjoy the things you haven't been able to do these past few years. I will see you when I get there, my sweet corgi girl. Love, Mama

I’m Entering Mango Minster 2012… by Dott

Can you BELIEVE it!?!  It is January again, and time for Mango Minster, the premier Dog Blog Dog Show, hosted by none other than our HUGE friend, Mango the Mastiff!  He and his mom put on the BEST Dog show each year, and put in TONS of work on making it fun for everyone.  Even if you don’t enter, there are great adventures, contests and games featured by Mango’s furiends, and he has a TON of them!!!

A couple of years ago, OC even got to be one of the judges, and Grammy provided one of the First Place Prizes… a portrait of the winner, which was Clive, a Golden Doodle Helper Dog to his autistic friend.

We JUST found out about this year’s Mango Minster last night when Grammy FINALLY felt well enough to get online and let us visit some of our old friends.  One of the classes is “Too Darn Cute!” and when my Dad found out about that, he said that I HAD to enter!  That’s what he’s called me from the time I was born… EVERY DAY… SEVERAL times a DAY!!!

Dad says I am cute when I’m sleeping with my toy squirrel,

And cute when I’m out doing “Squirrel Patrol” for REAL squirrels.

He says I’m cute from the front (I was sneezing).
and cute from the back  (I was bowing).
He says both sides of my profile are cute, too!

He laughs and says I’m cute when I’m dirty

 and cute when I’m clean…

He snickers and says I’m cute when I’m ANGRY  (wouldn’t YOU be!)

And cute when I’m angelic…

He even said I was cute when I was FAT  (I was in the family way)

and cute when I am thin!

He says I’m especially cute when I do my tricks… Here I am with my "Hands up..."

And here are a few more on this video.

Do YOU think I’m cute enough to win?  Are you “SQUEEEEEing” yet?

What’s WRONG With This Picture?

(Click on the picture to see better...)

Mmmm… Grammy says there is something WRONG with this picture!  We can’t figure out what she means.  After all, when the weather turns cold, they wouldn’t expect US to lay on the cold FLOOR would they?!?!   Surely she and Robert can come up with SOMETHING to sit on!

Coco is Having a Contest! By Dott

Coco and her adorable little Chihuahua sisters are having a Contest! We are a little late on posting about it, but you still have about a week to get an entry in, and the prize is a Picture book with all kinds of funny Pet pictures in it!  You can read about the contest HERE:

The name of the book is, “Awkward Family Pet Photos.”  It is what is called a “coffee table” book.  We don’t have a coffee table because Grammy very rarely drinks coffee, and she drinks her tea while at her desk! You can read Coco’s book review and learn more about the book at the blog about the contest. MMMmmm... I wonder if THIS is awkward enough?
It was awkward for ME ( I just KNEW there was a rabbit hiding under there somewhere), but none of my humans are in it, so I guess it wouldn't work...

Here are the rules:
1. PeeMail your Awkward family Pet Photo to Coco, no later than November 15th, 2011.
2. The Awkward Family Pet Photo must be of you (or those of your litter) and your Human or human relative.
3. Photos of furkids other than yourself will not be entered into the contest as she has no way of checking that they are REALLY your relatives and that you have permission to post them.

Well, I guess I better go and dig through some of my old pictures and see if I can find anything that PEOPLE might find awkward.  I know they have taken plenty of me that I  think are pretty awkward!!!

Sharing a MOST WONDERFUL Story

Grammy just read a MOST WONDERFUL story, and she wanted us to share it with everyone.  It is a corgi Christmas Story called "The Watching: A Corgi Puppy's Christmas Surprise." It is a long post, but well worth the read (have tissues handy!!!).  From what we understand, it has been made into a book that can be bought from the Corgiaid site.

We hope you all enjoy this.  It will touch your hearts, especially if you've a loved one who has taken the Rainbow Bridge...

We Got TREATS! by Gimli

We got a box in the mail a few days ago! It had some really GOOD smells coming from it!

We could hardly wait for Grammy to open it for us after we read that it was from our friend Palette and her Mom, Yassy, who makes some WONDERFUL dog treats! She also has other dog treats that she doesn’t make herself, but that Palette “taste tests,” and she sells them from her online Website, Yassy’s Gourmet Dog Kitchen.

Grammy had ordered a Moose Antler for us to chew on this time! We’ve LOVED the deer antlers, we’ve gotten from them before, and they last a LONG time, so Grammy loves them too!

When she found out they had Moose Antlers, she decided to get one to see if they last a long time too, and if we would like THEM. Well, DUH!

NOW, this week, we found out they also have Caribou Antlers, and Grammy says she wants to try to get some of them too, next time. We got a “Coupon code” (AUGLB) that is good for 10% off all the way up to Oct. 24th of this year. Yassy also sent a couple of extra treats like she usually puts in her orders. We got a Lamb Trachea AND some Buffalo Liver cookies!

They said we could share the code with our furiends and they also have a GDK’s circle of Furiends reward program on their store menu where you can even get more off! This is really great because Grammy also got us some “Surf and Turf Jerky” that Yassy makes from wild caught salmon and Buffalo meat. THAT was SO GOOD!!! Some of us were drooling before she was able to give each of us a piece!

We are sharing about our wonderful treats too, because we are joining Sugar the Golden Retriever’s Tasty Tuesday Blog Hop. Her Mom also makes some wonderful dog treats that we’ve gotten before and loved!  These were Apple Bites...

This Blog Hop goes through September 8th. There’s even a prize! You can find out more about it HERE

You should join in if you’ve got a post about some kind of doggie treat your Mom gets for you! Now, I’m going back to my moose antler!

Popping in to say HI!

My… How time flies!

And NOT the kind of  “Time Flies” in one of Grammy’s designs, either!

It’s been around four MONTHS since we last posted a blog.  I’ve been talking and talking to Grammy about it and she finally decided to let us post, especially with what happened this last week!  I’ll let Gimli tell you about it…

Gimli:  GUESS What! For a couple of days, we’d been hearing something crying under the bath tub! I’ve been whining and telling Grammy about it, but she said we had to wait a day or so to see if a Mama came back. She didn’t, so Grammy got Uncle Manuel to crawl under the house and find out what was crying. (This is a vid is of Mama Dott listening)

THIS is what Uncle Manuel found!

It was a LOT louder after it was rescued!!!

Since I told Grammy about them and INSISTED she DO SOMETHING, I feel like they are MY kittens!  GrandPaw Robert says I'm a good Mommy, but Grammy says I'm a good DADDY! I think this guy, with his LOUD voice, AND I saved these babies lives!
Here are the four babies that Uncle Manuel pulled out. He took the black one and the Siamese home with him, and I have the two little tigers until they get old enough to find homes. Grammy thinks they are around 3 weeks old now.
Grammy didn't even know there were any cats around, though WE've thought we might have seen one out of the corner of our eye every once in a while, and we've tried to tell her about it/them...

We are keeping them in a large pet carrier so they will be safe from Auntie Sadie who thinks that kitties are some kind of squirrel or something.

I stay close to it and keep an eye on them and warn her if she tries to get close!  My babies and I touch noses every once in a while through the door.

Whenever they are out of the cage, I try to stay close to them and clean and protect them.

Papa won’t let me up on his lap where Pippin is, though, when he holds my babies, because I growl at Pip.  I told him that he’d better NOT mess with them!

Pippin:  I really don’t think I like the idea of baby kitties around here!  What if Papa decided he likes kitties MORE than ME?!

Just LOOK at the NERVE of that little thing… Here it is scratching Papa’s arm…

And HERE it is BITING him!

 I’m a little worried…

Mercy:  I’m glad I overheard Grammy say the kitties can’t stay once they get old enough to find good homes because she is allergic to kitties.

BG:  Another reason we can’t keep them is that they can’t stay in the house and if they go outside, they get out of the yard and the coyotes get them, so Grammy doesn’t want to hand feed them and fall in love and then have them get eaten…

Dott: I am just glad we can get some sleep now that they aren’t SCREAMING anymore!
