OC & Sadie… the Cold War Goes On!

Auntie Sadie loves to play with the pups, and they with her, but after that big blowup, it’s still a bit tense around here.

Mama OC’s eye is fine now, but she’s still holding that grudge against Sadie. Mom says OC has an elephant’s memory. We watch them pretty closely and usually BG or I, or both of us will get between them if they start to fuss at each other.

Mama OC doesn’t like the pups to bump into her or crawl on her, so she just makes sure they keep their distance altogether.
BG and I will play with them a lot of times, but if they get to “nippy,” we will warn them with growls or snaps (not getting them… just scaring them.)

Grammy tells us that is just what Sadie is doing, too when they bite her, but whenever SHE does it, Mama OC takes it as a TERRIBLE AFFRONT and gets into Sadie’s face about it.

I kind of know how Mama feels, because I tend to get a bit huffy, too, with Sadie when SHE has the nerve to discipline MY kids!

A New Gracie Update...

The Director, Gracie’s new Mom, sent me some pictures and an update on my daughter.

Remember that she’d said that they had taken several pictures of her playing with the kids and Cooper, and that she loved her new Dad?

Well, as you can see, she sent them. I asked her if she minded my sharing her updates. She said she had no problem with that, so whenever I hear from her, I will share the news with you.

The next email we got from her said: Hi Linda (She writes them to Grammy), just wanted to let you know how happy we are with Gracie. Her name fits her, Racy Gracie. We took her camping with our other dog Cooper. They had so much fun playing on the beach. She is doing great. Thank you again for the addition to our family. She fits in perfectly.

Then, we got the following email today: My Daughter (that was the lady in brown on the video) took some cute pictures at the beach this weekend so I will have her send you a couple of them. (She did, as you can see… looks like that left ear might be starting to go up.)

Gracie comes to work with me everyday at the Humane Society of Ventura County
. She is the hit of the shelter. She barks when she wants to go potty, and is learning manners very quickly. She sits on command now, and she also looks very cute in her pink sweatshirt. We love her dearly. Thank you again for giving us another family member.

You don’t know how good it feels to know that one of your babies is safe in a home that cares so much for her and is willing to keep in contact to keep us all updated. It really makes Grammy, Papa and Robert, Grace’s GrandPaw, happy, too.

I want to thank all of you for you good thoughts and well-wishes for my foot. It is still sore… especially when I forget and jump down from my recliner or the back of the couch -- like when the UPS van drives up or Papa comes home. I hope that it heals soon!

The Pups were 11 weeks old yesterday and they got their second puppy shots. They weren’t particularly happy about it, poor babies. One of Gimli’s ears is up more than not now, and I’m sure the other one will follow suit fairly quickly.

They both pop up whenever he looks up even a little bit and the one will stay sometimes when he looks down now. He weighs 14 lbs.

Mercy’s ear is up about 99% of the time, with just the tip of her left ear flopping a bit… especially when they start wrestling and someone grabs it.

Grammy HATES that and keeps praying that they don’t break each other’s ears and gets after them if she sees them pulling on them. Mercy weighs 11 lbs. now.

Pippin and Papa are getting very close. He is starting to sleep in my old spot between Papa and Grammy’s lower back. I’ve been going in and staying with my Master at night because I get more rest without the puppies crawling all over me. (He’s got a heater in his room and it’s been getting a lot cooler around here lately) Pippin is at 10 lbs.

Pip’s Uncle BG is starting to accept all of the babies, and especially Pippin. We’ve even seen him playing with them when he thinks no one is watching. I think Grammy’s been stalking him, trying to get a picture of them playing.

Sadie took a Road Trip…

Sadie took a road trip on Saturday, and WE didn't get to go! Actually, from what she told me when she got back, I'm kind of glad we didn't!

She wasn’t to sure what was going on when they called her to go out and get in the car as she’s only gone in the car maybe two times since she came here.

She told me that she was kind of scared and laid very quietly in the back seat on the drive to the park where they were having the county Rabies Clinic.

She also hasn’t been on a leash much since she doesn’t go anywhere, and she was pretty nervous about that. She said she was afraid that they were going to give her away or something. She tried to be really good and quiet, and didn’t even bark or anything when she saw the few other dogs that were there.

Mom and Dad had gone toward the end of the clinic times so that there wouldn’t be very many dogs there. She says they took her over to a lady by a table and then the lady BIT HER IN THE BUTT!

Mom was so mad because the camera decided to freeze up at that point because the batteries ran out. She’d asked Robert to put in new ones and he’d gotten sidetracked… Anyway, they let Sadie sniff around because she'd been so good and she even got a little grass snack. THEY ACTUALLY HAD GRASS!!!

When they got home, Robert showed them the new obstacle that he had made for Dott.

She really loves her lookout and being up so high.

On the way down, though, she jumped off and for some reason her toenail got caught on something and flipped her. It split the toenail in half from the end of it all the way to the toe.

Mom had just trimmed all of our toenails last week and none of us could figure out what could have happened. Poor Dott! They had to cut it off almost at the toe line and had a really hard time getting it to quit bleeding. Robert was so upset that she’d gotten hurt…

There hasn’t been any heat or swelling, but she is still limping on it. That isn't swelling in the picture, it is the white vet wrap, and that was when it still hadn't stopped bleeding all the way.

We figure that she must have twisted it and injured a tendon or even gotten a bone crack, but the vet said there really wouldn’t be anything they could do… just like when a person cracks a toe. If it’s not broken badly, it just has to take the time to heal.

Foster Dogs We’ve had…

I’m having a really hard time finding friends that haven’t already gotten a Kreative Blogger award. Everyone that I’ve read is just so creative that someone else has already tagged them… SOOO I’m still working on that post since I’ve received the Award from our friends over at Expressly Corgi. We really appreciate it, and I promise to get THAT post up soon… I hope…

Meanwhile, I thought I’d post some pics for this blog of some of the foster dogs we’ve had here as we had one that really looked a lot like Sadie from Laurie’s blog, Sadie the Rescued Corgi
. Laurie is fairly new at blogging, but I’ve found all her posts to be pretty interesting, and she really loves Sadie. That is one lucky little corgi girl!

The first Corgi that we fostered for my Mom's sister was named Callie, and she got a wonderful home with one of Mom's very best friends. This lady had taken my brother and loved him with all of her heart, but on Christmas Day, some neighbor kids had let him out into the street in front of their home and he’d gotten run over. (I'm the pup on the left and my brother, Rascal, is on the right of my Mama Mist.)

She’d called Mom in hysterics, because she was so broken up. She’d been waiting for years for Mist or OC to have another corgi puppy that she could have, but they never got pregnant, so when Callie came to us, Mom offered her to her, and she decided to take her (otherwise, Mom would have probably kept her.) This lady's daughter, later, took one of Dott’s brothers when OC finally did have pups.

We fostered some Corgi mix pups for a few weeks, but didn’t get any pics of them, and then a big, white dog that we think was Labrador/ Great Pyrenees. He was very young and huge and the sweetest temperament!

His eyes were blue, as you can see. He went to the shelter the Gracie’s Mom is the Director of and they found him a wonderful home. We called him Blue while he was here.

We fostered Dott’s brother (Knight from the book) who is now named Zen, for a couple of months when his lady had to find a new place to live where she could keep him. He is loved very much too!

Those of you who have followed us for the past several months know that the pups Dad, that we called Doug, was also a foster dog. He was a full corgi, and so sweet. He was older, though, and insisted on marking EVERYTHING which is why we didn’t end up keeping him. He went to a corgi rescue, and once he was neutered, I’m sure they found him a good home, maybe as an outside dog.

Anyway, those are a few of the dogs we’ve fostered over the years… the ones we’ve gotten pics of anyway. I don’t tend to get very involved with them, except for Doug… (Blush… I got a case of hormones, too, while he was here…) and Mom wouldn’t let me near him after what happened with Dott.

Ha, ha, ha!!!… I just found out that they are going to take Sadie out to be SHOT tomorrow! (Mom: NO, OC!!! … we are NOT taking her to BE shot… We are taking her to GET her RABIES shot as she’s due for one!) Grumble, grumble… DARN!

Gimli has a Nosehawk…

A few months ago on MyCorgi.com, one of the people asked if any one had ever seen a “Nosehawk” on a corgi before, because her’s had one.

I thought it was a pretty interesting looking feature, but had never seen anything like it before.

Well, guess what!? My grandson, Gimli, HAS a NOSEHAWK!
Instead of the hairs dividing at the center of the nose and laying down each side, the hairs on HIS nose, about 1/8 of an inch on each side of center, lay TOWARD the center point and where they meet in the center, it sticks up into a little Mohawk looking thing on his nose!

It isn’t very tall, and he’s a pup and doesn’t want to stay very still to take a picture, but you can see it some in this video of him laying on Mom’s bed.

I wonder if it will get big? I hope not, so it doesn't cause a vision problem. Don't you think Gimli is a handsome little man now? We can hardly wait for his ears to come all the way up!

Martha and Bailey’s Strike…

Martha and Bailey have been holding a strike to try to get more pay (treats & snacks) for the pictures our humans use on these blogs. We want them to know that we HAVE participated, but our Mom gave in very quickly and especially since she is training the pups to come when called, etc., and if they get something she feels guilty if WE don’t, the treat scale (pay scale) has raised dramatically in our house.

Here are a few of the shots that Mom shot while we were in full strike mode … BEFORE the pay scale was raised around here. In this one, we reminded Dott that we needed to run AWAY when we saw the camera come out...

Gimli rolled over and tried to use a camouflage technique... Note that they ALL still play with Sasha’s Puppy Shower gift… at least whenever BG will let them (HE loves the squeaky)

Pip wouldn’t turn around and Mercy crouched down behind the toy in THIS one…

Grace promptly turned HER back on the camera, too!

Dott has had a really hard time remembering to fight her conditioned life-time and not pose the second she hears the camera coming on sound. She has had pictures taken of her since the moment (literally) that she was born, and knows that sound means to pose “pretty.”

I think that this thing has been the hardest on her as she is a real photo hog. (Dott yelling in background: That's "Picture Princess" to you, Bro!!!) You should see the ratio of the amount of pics of her compared to the amount of pics of the rest of us put together!!! Probably about 3 to 1 if not MORE!!!

Her Dad is the one that is usually behind the camera and therefore, it has a tendency to turn toward her almost constantly! NOW it has a tendency, during puppy shots, to turn toward Mercy…

Anyway, we just wanted you to know that around here, the strike worked pretty well! Thanks, Martha and Bailey for the idea!!!

A Bummer Day…

Today was a bummer day for all of us Corgis! All the pups got left home because they haven’t had their second Puppy Shot and they are due for it. Mom’s got it ordered but it hasn’t come in yet.

The rest of us went into town, but then we ended up staying all day at Mimi’s with Robert because Mom and Dad left after church to go to Bakersfield to get Mom’s picture of Mango from the Art Gallery where it has been in a special Art Show for the top Kern County Fair Art winners. She had won the Chairman’s Choice Award, so they sent her an invitation. It has been on display for the past month there, but will soon be headed to Mango's house.

They also had to do some shopping at a new Super Center, and didn’t know if I could get in. They said that I wouldn’t have been happy sitting in the car for so long waiting for them. I don’t know about that! It was BORING at Auntie Mimi’s except for playing with her girls and chasing the wild cats that come into her back yard!

At least they got a lot of the essentials that they said we were running low on… like Dog Food, and Chicken Breast Jerky, and Lamb & Rice Jerky, and chewies, and yogurt & canned milk for making the puppy milk supplement that they still get once a day. I GUESS… we can forgive them… especially since, when we got home, we got some left over cake and some cheese, and… I guess they WERE feeling pretty guilty!
