A FIGHT and a Birth…

When Grammy checked the phone messages after she got up Monday morning, she got a message that her son’s baby was on it’s way and they were at the hospital! She was excited, but had to do a BUNCH of things before she could go. Since she can’t drive much anymore and the hospital is over an hour’s drive away, she was going to have to wait for Robert or Papa to get home from work, anyway.

She called Papa and told him, and he said he be home as early as he could. She had breakfast in a hurry ( didn’t want a low blood sugar incident) and then got me into my wheelchair so that I could go outside to go potty.

While we were outside, she went around front and started the water to the back so that she could get the horse’s waterers filled. We were all feeling really good. I was wandering around checking the yard out, and the pups were running around playing tag.

Grammy saw the pups jumping in and out of our empty swimming pool, trying to hint that they really would like her to fill it, so she decided to do that. She turned the hose on full and was watching the pups snap at the water as she filled the pool.

She doesn’t know what happened, and I’m not telling, but the next things she knows, Sadie and I are in another BIG fight! She yelled at Sadie who was on top of me, and I couldn’t get away because she was on top of the wheelchair. That alerted the pups, BG and Dott, who all jumped in to help me (They go after whoever Grammy yells at).

She turned the water hose on us both, but mostly on Sadie’s face to make her let me go and back her off. She did, but by that time, I was REALLY TICKED and since she had backed into the fence and couldn’t go any further, I went after her again. Grammy turned the hose on ME and tried to grab Sadie off of me again, but we were all wet and slippery.

Mercy jumped on Sadie’s back and got her just behind her ear, wrapped her front legs around Sadie’s neck and her hind legs around her shoulders, and rode her around and around.
Everyone else was under her, getting her legs.

Grammy reached down and grabbed the bar that goes over my shoulders from my chair just as Sadie snapped at my ear again, and she got hold of Grammy’s hand. When she realized she’d bitten Grammy, she threw herself backwards and Grammy got hold of my chair so I couldn’t go anywhere, and turned the hose on everyone else to get them off of Sadie.

Sadie was SO SORRY (according to Grammy) that she just huddled miserably by the fence. Grammy left her in the front yard, and went to shut the patio door so that all the muddy dogs didn’t get in.

We went in, and were both shaking pretty badly by that time. I guess Grammy was pretty scared for me because of all the blood. She got a stool, and a chair, and then sat on the stool and hoisted me up into her lap and then into the chair. (She has to be careful because of her back)

Then she got a towel and put it under me and hoisted me up into the sink, using the higher chair for leverage. Then, she gave me a BATH, so she could see where I was hurt.

She was pretty relieved to find out that I wasn’t hurt to badly. I got a cut above my eye through the skin, but not quite big enough to need a stitch, and another scratch or something in the outside edge of my eye that bled some, but quit fairly fast. Most of the blood was from some cuts/bites on my lips and mouth. They bled a lot and flung blood around all over the front of me, but weren’t serious.

When she finished checking me out, she wrapped me in a towel and just hugged me and cried a lot. We were both still shaking. I am so sorry I made her be upset! I kept licking her and hugging her with my head.

Papa came in about then and helped carry me into the living room and put me on the couch so Grammy could disinfect and medicate all my wounds, then she went out and checked out Sadie. Apparently, her super heavy, getting ready to shed coat protected her from any damage (grumble, grumble…)

Since the weather was nice, they left Sadie in the front yard, left me in the Living Room, and put everyone else in the kitchen to where they could go outside (after checking them) and then they got cleaned up and left for the hospital.

They got there about 10 minutes before their fifteenth grandbaby was born. Robert had gone to the hospital directly from work and got there about an hour before them. Jose Evan Joseph Landin was born at 7:03 p.m. He weighed 6 lbs. 8 oz. and was 19 inches long. Grammy and Papa were glad that they had gotten there in time.

Grammy’s hand hurt her to much to let her hold the baby for very long, but she did get to hold him a little when she was sitting down. They visited for a while, took pictures and then came home, put my wheelchair back together enough for me to go outside and go potty, and then we all went to bed.

Before, Robert has been home when there has been a fight, and he could pick Sadie up and haul her out, but since he is working now, and the weather has warmed up enough to be pleasant, they have decided to put Sadie in the front yard whenever Grammy is here by herself.

Grammy is upset that it isn’t fair to Sadie, but Grammy and I are so sore all over today, that she doesn’t see any other choice at this time.

Boo... hoo...

Congrats on new grandbaby ! I am sooo sorry to hear of the other drama, hope your hand is better. I have 3 boyz, and 2 of them get into some awful confrontations, and I have some scars for trying to break them up....we all end up in a weepy, shaking mess afterwards too...

OC. That sounds really scary and confusing. I think you and Sadie are getting upset over the changes that are happening to you, what with your wheelie chair and all and maybe you feel a little defensive, huh. I hope you can find an arrangement that lets Sadie be inside. Maybe a time out crate. Actually, OC, given your, ahem, mobility issues, you might want to look into your own crate for relaxing in. It would be your private space where Sadie would not be able to go.

so sorry about the fight between OC and Sadie. I guess they will just not like each other. I think it is wise to keep Sadie outside in the front yard, better safe than sorry. I hope your hand feels better sooner than later; do take very good care of it!

hoping OC makes a quick recovery too

We can't see all of the pictures due to our computer gremlin but we can read the words!!!
We are reading about that fight and it was soooooo scary!
We don't like when you fight at all - and we don't care who started it you guys have to behave.
Poor Grammy, all that excitement with a new baby about to be born, having to make sure she eats so her blood sugar is OK and having to separate fighting doggies.
It is just too much!
We are glad you all sound OK and delighted about the birth of the new grandson.
Congratulations on your fifteenth grandchild - that is awesome.
Now Country Corgi's listen here - we Basset Babes order that there is to be no more scary fighting!
Take care

Oh how scary!!! Maybe the excitement of the hose and water set things off... It sure is a good thing the hose was handy though because it sounds like that helped keep it from getting even worse. It is sad to think that Sadie will be off by herself but it would be even sadder if another fight happened and ended even worse. I know Grammy will know the best thing to do for everyone. Hope you all are healing up nicely (I am way behind so I know this happened awhile ago...). And congrats on the new bundle of Joy! Glad Mom and Baby are healthy.
