See You Later Dear Friend

We were all shocked to hear that our dear friend, the Relentlessly Huge Mango, had to take a sudden trip to the Rainbow Bridge.

We are all so sad that his wonderful family is having to go through the sorrow of losing him, and we are praying for memories of comfort for all of them.

We also believe that he is with so many of his friends, including our Grandma OC, and they are both happy and healthy as they play in those heavenly places.

Run Free, dear friend....  Run Free!

I’m Entering Mango Minster 2012… by Dott

Can you BELIEVE it!?!  It is January again, and time for Mango Minster, the premier Dog Blog Dog Show, hosted by none other than our HUGE friend, Mango the Mastiff!  He and his mom put on the BEST Dog show each year, and put in TONS of work on making it fun for everyone.  Even if you don’t enter, there are great adventures, contests and games featured by Mango’s furiends, and he has a TON of them!!!

A couple of years ago, OC even got to be one of the judges, and Grammy provided one of the First Place Prizes… a portrait of the winner, which was Clive, a Golden Doodle Helper Dog to his autistic friend.

We JUST found out about this year’s Mango Minster last night when Grammy FINALLY felt well enough to get online and let us visit some of our old friends.  One of the classes is “Too Darn Cute!” and when my Dad found out about that, he said that I HAD to enter!  That’s what he’s called me from the time I was born… EVERY DAY… SEVERAL times a DAY!!!

Dad says I am cute when I’m sleeping with my toy squirrel,

And cute when I’m out doing “Squirrel Patrol” for REAL squirrels.

He says I’m cute from the front (I was sneezing).
and cute from the back  (I was bowing).
He says both sides of my profile are cute, too!

He laughs and says I’m cute when I’m dirty

 and cute when I’m clean…

He snickers and says I’m cute when I’m ANGRY  (wouldn’t YOU be!)

And cute when I’m angelic…

He even said I was cute when I was FAT  (I was in the family way)

and cute when I am thin!

He says I’m especially cute when I do my tricks… Here I am with my "Hands up..."

And here are a few more on this video.

Do YOU think I’m cute enough to win?  Are you “SQUEEEEEing” yet?

Mr. Mango’s Request…

Since Mama OC is sleeping a lot lately and probably won’t notice, and since I, Dott, have taken over as Alpha corgi here in Corgi Country, I have decided to honor Mr. Mango’s request in our last post's comments, to also share some things about our Auntie Sadie.

(1) Hi, everyone! My name is Sadie aka. Silly Sadie, Shady Sadie Lady, or AOL (This is what they call me in OC’s hearing and refers to the fact that I am pitch black and it’s hard to take a picture of me… hence Absence Of Light.)

(2) I am about 7 years old and was a rescued dog. (This picture was from 2 days after I came here about 6 years ago. I was pretty thin.) Grammy had just lost her old “Shadow” who took the Bridge at 17 years old. She had gotten him when he wasn’t even two months old, and really missed him.

He was a Border Collie/Shepherd mix. She had also trained a black Border Collie when she was in High School that she really loved, and she said I looked a lot like them.

(3) I was totally thrilled to be rescued into a home that loves their dogs like Grammy and Papa love us, but OC, who had loved Shadow, and had recently been hurt and couldn’t do her “herding of the goats” job, got really jealous of me spending time with Grammy and “That young whipper snapper taking MY job!!!...” Corgis have LONG memories, and she has never gotten over that time… :(

(4) I am VERY SMART (like most Border Collies, I’m told) and learn things very quickly… sometimes just by watching without any formal training! I learned to bring things to Grammy, herd the goats (when we had them) and the horses, and do tricks that Grammy teaches the corgis.

I also learned to be a gentle, loving Auntie to the corgi pups. (BG & Dott when they were pups, and the new pups, Gimli, Mercy & Pip, now.)

(5) I will admit that sometimes I get a kick out of “being especially nice” to OC (the old biddie) by going up to her, licking her face and smiling at Grammy, while OC grumbles and fusses and Dott keeps a close eye to see that a fight doesn’t start.… :)

(6) Now that OC can’t go out running with us very often (not at all this past winter) I get to play with Grammy when we go out on runs and that is like heaven to me! I just get so thrilled that they say I “get goofy” and “monkey tail” all over the place.

(7) I really DO try to stay out of fights and run to get behind Grammy whenever one starts now-a-days. I do tend to warn them and then defend myself, some, when one or more of the corgis (especially OC) starts gnawing on my legs during the middle of a fight.

Thank you, Mr. Mango, for asking about me so that Her Highness, Dott, allowed me to tell a little about myself, too!

A Busy Week…Part 1 By BG

This has been a very busy week for Grammy and a kind of boring one for us. Grammy and Papa’s oldest son had driven from Florida to CA for his 20 year Class Reunion and to be here for Kody Bear’s baby sister’s Dedication up in their town

He spent the rest of the week up there visiting, but Grammy had gotten so behind with all the other stuff she’s been doing, that she had to spend the week cleaning… and do THAT without water, cause our waterline broke again!

We DID get to go out on a few Squirrel Patrols, and those were a LOT of fun. Even Grandma OC got to come out and go with us one time.

We got a chance to see that new “Train Thing” that Grammy had been talking about. It is REALLY BIG!!! It would make a great Mango Cave!

A big truck had brought it in a few weeks ago, and put it in the back of our side pasture.

That is where they had been putting all the stuff they’d brought from Papa’s Auntie’s house.

It is our opinion that it is NOT a good thing. It looks like it was specifically MADE to become a Squirrel and/or rabbit condo!!!

Mama Dott and little Pippin CAN get under one end of it, but Grammy and GrandPaw don’t like that because they are afraid of spiders and snakes under there, so, after these pictures, they decided they would put a piece of board there to keep them out. THAT will leave holes that are just right for rabbits and squirrels and leave US no way to get to them.

THIS IS HORRIBLE!!! Can you just imagine those nasty things sitting right there just out of reach and TEASING US?!?!

It is bad enough that they try that under that old “Dart” car of Grammy’s other son. At least we can usually manage to spook them out from under THERE with enough circling and digging…

The inside of that thing is like a huge room and it is really stuffy.

There are all sorts of smells in there, too, but we can only go in when Papa or someone else is going in. Other than that, they close the door and it is dirt and water tight.

It was a lot more fun this weekend, because Little Kody Bear got to come on Friday and he stayed until today (Monday.) We’ll have to fill you in on how our weekend went the next time.

She’s HOME… and in BIG TROUBLE! By Dott

Here is the link to the conclusion of Mango’s Big Adventure: My Big Adventure – Conclusion

We hope that you all followed along to see ALL of what was happening over there with Mercy and the rest of the gang.

We were on the edge of our seats with everything that was going on, and were very relieved to read this final post and see that our wayward Miss Mercy, hadn’t gotten herself maimed or injured, and was on her way home with the rest, in Dennis the Vizsla’s private jet. As you can see, she met a LOT of our blogging furiends!

We are so glad, too, that the Lacie Beast’s hold on our friend’s minds was able to be lifted from them and that they are all back to normal again! We just KNEW that Khyra, Twinkie, Zep, and Chrome wouldn’t do something like this because they are just way to sweet!

It is both sad and SCARY that the Lacie Beast is still loose out there coming up with some other dastardly plan! Actually, she has probably given up on dastardly plans because her people Dad is in the hospital, and we ask that any of you that pray, please drop by and visit and pray for him.

We also want to thank Mango and Dexter’s Mom for doing such an awesome job in helping to chronicle this adventure while Mango and Dexter were busy living it! We think she did an awesome job!!! Take a bow, Mango Mom!!!

One thing is certain, Miss Mercy is going to be grounded for a LONG time, and probably be doing a lot of extra chores around here, too.

No, boys, that does NOT mean that she will be your slave, and if you want to KEEP those noses on your faces, you’d better NOT push her about this!

Mercy has no business getting involved with someone that’s several times her age, and Papa had a LONG talk with her…

She's still got a bit of an attitude, but is rather disillusioned with Dexter because he didn’t jump in on his own to help save Mr. Mango. If you’ve been with us very long, you know that everyone around here “really looks UP to, Mr. Mango.” (pun intended).

We also want to say congratulations to Jackal, Zep and Chrome’s canine friend, for cornering a nasty, vicious possum so that it could be dispatched, and  to award him one of Dott’s Mighty Hunter Awards. We haven’t given out this award for quite a while, but if you have a “Mighty Hunter” among your furiends, let us know.

We are hoping to start our “Gimli’s Grab-bag of Games” next week, and we are still waiting for our winners of the Pippin's Peek at the Past Puzzles...

and of our Birthday Drawing to email us with their addresses so that we can get their prizes out to them… Hint, hint…

P.S. As we were finishing this post, we just got the news that Mango had a seizure the other night. He went to the ER where they checked him out and is home now. Please keep Mango and his Mom in your prayers. His Mom asked all of his friends if they had any kind of info on this sort of thing, and she got all kinds of information. Grammy copied and pasted it to keep for her own information. She plans to consolidate it and put it in her doggy health info folder. She suggests it might be wise for others to do this too, because it’s always good to know what to do in any kind of emergency. There was good info for cleaning up wet potty stains and smells, too ... many that are natural.
