Our Christmas Card...

T'was the Night Before Christmas in Corgi Country by Robert Brock

HI, Dott here...I just wanted to tell you what I have just seen...

T'was the night before Christmas, when all through the country
Not a creature was stirring, not even a Corgi.
The frapping was done, the place covered in hair,
Puppies hoping that St. Nicholas soon would be there.

The pups were nestled all snug in their bed,
While visions of jerky sticks danced in their heads.
Papa and Grammy were struggling for room,
Thinking of corgis going zoom, zoom, zoom.

When out in the pasture there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the bed to see what was the matter.
Away out the door I flew like a flash,
Tore up the yard to check my bone stash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
Gave the lustre of mid-day to objects below.
When, what to my chorgi eyes should appear,
But a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.

With a little old driver, corgi lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
More rapid than birdies his sled team they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

"Now Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! On, Cupid! on Donner and Blitzen!
To the top of the fence, and over Cory’s stall!
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!"

As dry leaves before the winter storm fly,
When they met with an obstacle, they took to the sky.
On up to the house-top those swift reindeer flew,
With the sleigh full of Chew Toys, and St. Nicholas too.

Then with Corgi ears turning, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I trotted inside, with hardly a sound,
Down the chimney St. Nicholas came with a bound.

He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Chew Toys he had on his back,
And he looked like my dad, carrying his back pack.

His eyes-were like Papa’s- twinkling and merry!
His cheeks were like roses, his nose like a cherry!
His smile drew his mouth into the shape of a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the snow.

The stump of a bone I held in my teeth,
As thoughts encircled my head like a wreath.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!

He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf,
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread.

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger inside of his nose,
And giving a nod, up the chimney he rose!

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas, dear furiends and to all a good-night!"

Dott’s Favorite Things By Dott & Robert Brock

I have been trying for several days to get Grammy to post this, and if you are a fan of me on FaceBook you have already seen it.

(Sing to the tune of “My Favorite Things” from “The Sound of Music”)

Small puppy noses and handfuls of jerky

Nice, soft squeakies... did I mention the jerky

Brown paper packages tied up with strings

These are a few of my favorite things...

Yummy cheeseburgers and small pasta noodles

Mashed potatoes and funny cut poodles

A big hunk of steak and fried chicken wings

These are a few of my favorite things…

Hiding things deep

In my stashes

Begging and batting

My big eyelashes

Nice comfy beds without metal Springs

These are a few of my favorite things

When the pup nips

When they leave me

When I'm feeling sad

I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don't feel so bad.

Grammy is going to bed early as her tummy is getting really upset, so this is all we have time for tonight. We hope she is feeling better tomorrow!

Our First Squirrel Patrol!!! ... by Gimli

Grammy said that we could go on our first squirrel patrol because we have learned to come when we are called! This is going to be such a BLAST!

We have gotten out of the yard before and been allowed to go around the big yards that Grammy calls corrals.

We’ve gotten to meet the big horses when they have been eating, too, but we hadn’t gotten a chance to do a FULL SCALE Squirrel Patrol before!

Boy, were we EXCITED!!!! First, Mama and Grandma OC said we needed to check under and around the Tackroom. Pippin got a little ahead of himself and ended up running around in circle because he was so excited! Mercy had to get him back on track.

When BG called the “All Clear…” we headed out to the side pasture to check the big ditch. You can see just a tiny bit of green starting to come up because of all the rain we’ve had. We ran around checking all the bushes and the holes down there, following our teachers.

We ended up getting a little bit ahead of our teachers, and went up on the hill on the other side of the ditch, so Grammy did a “Recall!” We came running back really fast, and she gave us treats just like she’s been doing every time we come when we are called… then, because we came back so good, we got to go back to the patrol.

Grandma OC was getting pretty tired coming back up the side of the ditch and stayed pretty close to Grammy the rest of the time. Mama Dott got convinced that there was something in an old barrel that was down in the ditch, and called all of us over, but we couldn’t get whatever it was out, so finally gave up.

We went on down the ditch toward the front pasture, but since Grandma OC was so tired, Grammy called us back and said that we were doing really good, but we needed to go in. (We are supposed to sit when we come back to Grammy, but she was kind of easy on us THIS time because we had come back so good when we were called.)

We came in kind of slow because Grammy and Grandma OC were tired, but we followed them really good, and finally got all the way back. Mercy didn’t want to come in when the rest of us did, and it took them another minute or two to convince her… GrandPaw Robert even used the “N” word (No) AND the “BD” words (BAD DOG) before she finally decided she’d better listen or he might come after her. She still got her treat when she DID come, but we’d gotten several by then, while they were trying to convince her, so that wasn’t to bad for us.

We went and started playing with Unca BG and our favorite toy while they convinced her. (Grammy says Mercy has a mind of her own, and she’s going to have to keep an eye on her!)

Well, I hope that you enjoyed joining us on our very FIRST SQUIRREL PATROL!!! WE sure had a lot of fun, but were totally wiped and took a long nap after our return!

Dad Got ME a Christmas Present... by Dott

My Dad got me a Christmas Present!

I wonder what it is?!

He put it under the tree RIGHT BY MY CHAIR!

He said I couldn’t have it until Christmas!

It smells SOOOooo interesting!

Do you think that’s FAIR???
P.S. Grammy wrote a poem dedicated to those of our loved ones (two-legged & four-legged) who have gone on ahead of us because there has been so many lately. It's called "Garden of Love," and she posted it on her blog: A Country Grammy's Walk With God, if you are interested in reading it...

Keepin’ It Warm… by BG

One of my main jobs during the day is to keep my Dad’s chair safe from boarders.

I also keep it warm and ready for him to come home to.

Sometimes, I have to sit up a bit to be able to see the TV better…or watch the door during my long vigil…

It’s a tough job… but someone’s got to do it, right?

Hey, MOM! It’s a bit cold in here… how about a blanket!?

Guess who had to autograph a picture for Classy Chassy from Expressly Corgi?...

Someone who HATES having her feet fooled with!

“Classy Chassy, you KNOW you are our friend if I’d do this for you!”

P.S. if you would like to learn more about Mom’s very first Doggy love of her life, visit her “Tuesday’s Show and Tail” entry on her “Country Grammy’s Walk With God Blog.”
