Sixth of Sixth Challenge

Grammy just remembered that we had a Sixth of Sixth Challenge… One of those things where you are supposed to look into your animal pics folder and choose the sixth folder and then the sixth picture in the folder… or something like that… and then tell about it.

Grammy is getting quite old and forgets things. This was a week or so ago and she apparently didn’t put it down anywhere about who it was that challenged us. She had a few ideas but when she tried to find it in our anipals blogs, she couldn’t. WE ARE SO SORRY!!! And apologize profusely, for her forgetfulness…. Bad, Grammy… BAD Grammy! Maybe we should get out the spray bottle…

Anyway, here is the picture that we came up with. It is a picture of BG and me when we were about 10 months old, laying on the couch. Note the gangly, adolescent-ness of us… Snicker… BG still hadn’t grown into his ears, and as I look closely, I guess I hadn’t either.

We look a bit different now, as you can see!

I’m sorry that I have been kind of dumpy lately. Just don’t seem to have a lot of energy. I think it is probably because of the high temperatures around here. We have had a horrible heat wave. I just feel weird! Some days I’m really hungry, and others I just don’t want to eat anything (unless it’s some really good meat or something from a people plate, of course)

Dad’s been really mean to me and won’t give me my cheese on my dinner lately because he thinks I might have been getting to much and got concentrated?… He’s always told me that I am “concentrated cuteness,” before, though, and still gave me my cheese! Maybe he said “con’s tent pated”… but that still doesn’t make any sense. AND… he has been following me around and not giving me any privacy when I need to go outside.

Normally, he has a weak stomach and throws up if he sees poop or anything else nasty smelling. I tell you… I’m really starting to worry about HIM! He’s hovering over me like a nervous Nelly!

P.S. We loved the sweet Thank You card that our friend, Sasha sent us!

Oceano, Here We Come! Part 1

Corgi Country has been sweltering in temperatures around 105 degrees the past couple of days! Dad has come in from work with his work shirts white crusted with sweat. It’s been awful!

Dad decided that this weekend, we were going to the coast because it was only supposed to be in the low 60’s there. It was a Saturday, so that is a day that everyone sleeps in. We got up and had a good breakfast, and then we found out WE got mail!

We twitter under the username ocmist, and Dott has her own twitter under LittleDottBooks, and one of our twitter anipals, called BestBullySticks, had a give away of some samples of their Bully Sticks. We’ve heard of them from some of you, and so we asked for some and they got here Saturday morning!

You that have mentioned them are just SO RIGHT!!! They are wonderful! We thoroughly enjoyed our snack treat while waiting for Mom and Dad to get ready to leave! Yumm, Yummmm…!!!

We didn’t leave until around 1 in the afternoon, but once in the truck, it was COOOOOLLL! Dad’s truck has a wonderful air conditioner that will almost freeze you out no matter how hot it is outside. MUCH better than the old swamp cooler in the house! Two wonderful hours of riding in a nice cool truck being petted and loved on!!! THAT is the life!

Once we got to Arroyo Grande, we stopped at a MickyD’s to get US a double cheeseburger! Yum, yum, YUMMY! While they were there, Dad and Mom decided to have one too.

We drove on down to the beach, which was PACKED with cars, people, and dogs! I guess we weren’t the only ones wanting out of the heat!

It was COLD out there! They said it was in the low 60’s and it was overcast, foggy and there was a COLD breeze. It was NICE since we had our Corgi coats on… We had only been there a few minutes when several screaming trucks roared by, splashing water! They had pretty red, white and blue flashing lights on them, but the sounds they made about split our eardrums! There was a whole bunch of people gathered and the Rescue people (that’s what Mom called them… wonder if they save dogs?) jumped out and ran into the water with long red tubes.

They came back with someone (Mom says they must have been in trouble, so I wonder if they were doing bad things? Oh… no, Mom says they might have been drowning) and put blankets around the person, and the ambulance people checked them, but I guess they were ok, which is good. Mom had been praying for them. She didn’t want to bother anyone, so she only took a couple of pics from a little ways off. We stayed with Dad while she did that.

After things settled down, Mom took us, each, for a little walk around to sniff things out. I got to go first. I found a feather and Mom had me pick it up so she could look at it and show it to the pups when we got back to the truck. Trucks and cars kept coming by near us and distracted me a bit, and Mom was juggling a camera, the leash and trying to get the feather from me, so the vid is a bit jerky… sorry ‘bout that.

We homeschool the pups out here in Corgi Country, and try to find all kinds of things to teach them about… Mom and I let Dott examine the feather...

After that, BG checked it out...

When BG went on his walk, he saw a dead seagull that had gotten hit by one of those screaming trucks that went by so fast. At least he could see what happens if you don’t listen and get out in a “road” where those vehicles go. Poor gull...

Dott went for a little bit, but she didn’t like all the people, cars and that water that chases you, so she came back right away.

I hate it when Mom takes the pups and not me, even though I’ve had my turn, and I tell her in no uncertain terms that I should get to go too, even though it is really hard for me to walk on the sand. Finally, I got tired of yelling after her, (and Dad telling me to settle down) and so I just laid down on the sand and relaxed by Dad.

When she finished walking all three of us, we all sat by the truck and relaxed. Mom and Dad hadn’t brought any jackets, so after a while, they ended up wrapping themselves in towels, but they just sat out in their lawn chairs, listened to the waves, chilled out (literally), and watched the pellet cans. These are a bunch of weird birds that dive into water… I guess with a can… and catch fish!

This is getting to be pretty long, so I will finish telling you about the rest of our wonderful Saturday next time, ok?

Miserably HOT!!!

It has been miserably hot here! Auntie Sadie told us that while we are all at the beach and nice and cool, she was sweltering in over 100 degreen heat. I know that the heat has sucked all the green out of anything on the ground, so I guess that’s what she’s talking about. Poor Auntie… she hardly ever gets to go anywhere.

Grammy’s TV has been talking about breaking a lot of records. Apparently, if it gets to hot, some of those old black things that she likes to play sometimes, gets broken. All I know is that it’s too hot to go outside much at all the past few days unless it’s at night, and Grammy doesn’t like it if I’m out to long at night because she says I’m the size of a Jackrabbit and a hawk or owl might try to get me.

Speaking of Jack’s, the other day when we got home a little before dusk, there were two HUGE old Jackrabbits by the stock-gate down our driveway. My Master got out to open the gate and since we’d seen them, Grammy let me and BG out too, and we chased them clear across the pasture.

To bad they had such a huge head start on us. We almost caught one anyway, but Grammy called us back. She told Master that I had gone so fast, she was almost afraid I’d catch one and that, since it was bigger than me, it might hurt me.

I’m sure I could have held onto it long enough for Beeg to get there and help me… THAT would have been a MAJOR feast! I guess Grammy would have probably made us give it up anyway before it got ripe enough though. She’s funny that way.

Today I had a horrendous experience! I’ve been begging Master to take me on a “water run” with him for a long time… he has to go each day to haul water in big barrels in the truck until we can get our waterline fixed—I think BG might have mentioned that before.

Anyway, he went ahead and took me this time. He put me in the back of the truck while he was hooking up the hose to the waterline at the meter, and put the other end of the hose into one of the big barrels. I was so happy to be with him and finally find out what he has been doing. He turned on the water and something he called a “surge” happened and the hose turned into a huge, living snake that thrashed all over the place!!!

He ended up all wet, and I just barely dodged out of the way of the water so that I wasn’t drowned, but I still got a little wet. Now I don’t mind getting into the water on my own, but THAT thing was SCARY!!! I shook all the way home, and hid when I got here. Master felt really bad and kissed up all day…

Grammy was extra nice to me, too, and finally coaxed me out with jerky treats. I forgave Master, but I don’t know if I’ll want to get into the back part of the truck next time. I think I’ll stay in the seat if he takes me again.

Mama had a really hard night last night because she had run around a little with us yesterday afternoon. Grammy had to carry her to bed, and gave her more of her medicine. It made Grammy cry. Mama felt better today. She did take it pretty easy all day, only getting up when she had to go outside for a few minutes or get a drink. Tonight, Grammy wouldn’t let her go out when she went to feed the horses, and that made Mama sad.

It’s NASTY HOT!!!!

It's has been so beautiful outside lately… we actually had a spring this year. We’ve gotten to run and play outside… it’s been a blast! Usually, we go straight from winter to summer… at least the past couple of years that Dott and I remember. Mama says that’s the way it usually is as far as she remembers, too.

One of Mom’s horses is turning a different color. Remember the “snow” picture of Tuffy, that big old palid- mino horse that Mom is watching for her son? He was a light cream color when he came and all winter long, and now, he is turning dark gold! It’s weird to watch! When we shed, we all stay the same color, but the horses seem to get darker. The red ones are just sort of darker red. Mom calls it chestnut, but that sound more like food than a color.

It was starting to get a bit cold with so much of our winter coats gone, but as of today, I don’t think we will have THAT problem for awhile. At least Mama is moving a lot better today. Last Sunday (not this Sunday, but the one before) there was snow on the mountains about an hour from us, and today, the temperature got up to the 90’s!!!

We were WIPED by the time we got back from our morning run to the mailbox! We drank a ton of water and then plopped and stretched out all over the living room and panted for half an hour. Mom said it was like running an obstacle course to walk from one end of the room to the other.

Since our water is still not running, we can’t use our cooler, so we just had fans going all day. My grandpa, Bud, used to love to lay out in front of them when it was hot. They didn’t put one down low today, so I didn’t get a chance to try it.

Robert had to make extra water runs with the big barrels in the truck to fill the horses’ water barrels because they are hot and drinking like “cam melts.” I didn’t know horses melted! They still look as big as usual to me.

When our people got back from their Bible Study, they said that there had been more snakes out on the road. They had that strange dog smell on them… again!) This is getting a bit old! They go every week and always come back smelling of a strange dog... sometimes, two! They call the usual one Daisy, but I know a dog when I smell one and that DEFINITELY is NOT a flower!

Dott followed Dad all over pushing on his leg with her nose, and sniffing very pointedly to let him know that she was not happy with him. She refused to get into his lap for a while too. Oops, Mom says I have to stop now, so I will finish this blog tomorrow… its supposed to still be hot so we should be here most all day anyway.
