Weekend continued…

Last time, I told you about what we did most of Saturday. It was getting kind of late in the evening by the time we started home and they hadn’t had a chance to go shopping like they had planned on doing, so we stopped at a little market in a small town on the way home from delivering Dancer. Mom was thrilled to find that the meat prices were pretty good, and they had Oxtails for sale.

Her mom used to make oxtail soup and she hadn’t had it for a long time, so she got a pack of them, came home and started to make some. She made some other stuff for dinner since oxtails have to cook for several hours, and boy, did they start to smell GREAT by the late evening. She had put in the garlic, onion and seasonings while cooking the meat, and after about 4 hours, she added pearl barley and let it simmer another hour.

Let me tell you, WE were all drooling to beat the band! It was pretty awful to find out that she wasn’t serving it until later because she wanted to add vegetables and we didn’t have any.

At least she DID pull out a few of the bones (one each) for us to chew on that night, but we did get the rest of the bones when they had the soup yesterday.

Sunday, our people went into town for church as usual and then to Mimi’s (where WE had stayed with Kisses and Dolly during the services). After lunch, Mom and Dad took me with them to the Big Town to shop at Costco and Winco, take some food to Auntie K (Dad’s elderly aunt) and shop for my new Service Dog harness and matching leash.

I got to go into Costco since I am a Service Dog and it was a bit warm to stay in the car. Mom explained to the man about my jobs, and that, though I wouldn’t be working in their store, I needed to go places with Mom in case she needed me, and it was to hot to stay in the car at the time. They were very nice about it.

After running our other errands, we went into PetCo and Mom found what she said would be a perfect working harness. It has mesh so it shouldn’t be to hot and the saddlebags are bright and can hold my Service Dog papers, and if it is hot, some ice packets to keep me cool. It is Neon Green and black, and she got a nice black leash to go with it. What do you think? Not to bad, if I do say so myself… except for the bare patch on my butt!

On the home front, Doug and I are NOT hitting it off… or maybe we are (as in trying to knock off each other’s blocks). HE is trying to weasel his way into MY Mom’s affections… and MY Dad’s, too! I haven’t been able to relax in my chair at all because I have to stay glued to Mom’s side to warn him off.

She really got after me when we had a … BIG DISCUSSION, shall we say, this evening. She even got out the water bottle and squirted me when I kept warning him to stay on the other side of the room… or, preferably, OUT of the room.

We are proud to let you all know that we have asked to become officially involved in Tank’s Operation Whack-A-Squirrel. We have been gorilla fighting in Squirrel Wars around here for years as most of you know who follow our adventures, but we believe that it will be nice to have others from all over dog blog land to help. Dozer and Mango have done a magnificent job recruiting in their recent blogs!

Dott is hereby presenting Tank, Mango and Dozer with her Mighty Hunter Award for going all out and organizing this momentous task! As Tank gets reports of kills in, we have asked him to refer the Mighty Hunters to us so that they can also pick up their awards.

Oh thank you for the mighty hunter award! One does try.

Tell mom not to be too hard on you defending her from the new pup. It is your house after all.

Slobbers,

Nice "service Dog" outfit! My corgi girls would love them, but they only serve THEMSELVES, so, would that count???
