Abject Apologies… By Gimli

I am just SO SORRY! Grandma OC had a talk with me and explained that I had done a TERRIBLE thing! My only excuse is that I’m only 6 months old and sometimes forget some of the blogging rules, and Grammy seems to have had a brain fart and forgot, too, when she edited my post.

I want to apologize to Mango, and Betty & Koda, for forgetting to put in the link to their blogs when I mentioned them as the winners in Mercy’s Contest! Also, to Dory, when I gave her Mercy's message. I should know better by now, I guess, but Grammy is the one that caught it. She woke up this morning and thought about the post being a lot about our new friend, Bender, and suddenly realized that we’d not put in the links to her TOTALLY long time friends, and she felt so bad after they’ve been so good to her!

Khyra mentioned that she could feel the ground shaking from Mango’s jumping up and down for joy, and we were wondering if that triggered any small earthquakes to register on the seismologist’s scales in that area? And yes, Mango… You ARE the cleverest Mango we know!!!

I also noticed that Twinkietinydog, had a typical Chihuahua ATTITUDE… you know… the ATTITUDE is ten times the size of the dog…!!! We LOVE ya, Twink ! (Actually, it’s the size of your big old heart, though, I guess!) We expect you to win in the next round of Mercy’s Mystery! After all, with all that traveling you’ve been doing all over the world, you’ve probably just got a huge case of jet lag!

Candy & Captain are little Chihuahua/mix doggies, though, and they were pretty sweet (of course, I guess that goes with the name, Candy). With their little sizes, we can see how they would come up with the idea of “Pupsicles” when they saw all that snow!

Poor Chatty Crone, with her allergies to the animals that she TOTALLY loves, but can’t have, loves the idea of the Peanut Butter cookies, but since they are made for dogs, she probably won’t even be able to eat any. You should all go over and give her some virtual doggy licks and hugs so she can “feel the love” from all our wonderful furry friends, too!

We’ve got to get this post done early today because Grammy has to pack to go on an overnight working trip with Papa to the coast early tomorrow morning. She is still not sure who she is going to take with her. I’m voting for me, since Grandma OC isn’t walking well anymore, Uncle BG has that gimpy leg right now, and I’m getting really good at picking things up for Grammy.

She says there is a Dog Park in Ventura, according to the Dog Friendly site, and she would like to see me get to go run and play there, but, she is worried about Grandma OC, and doesn’t want to miss out on opportunities to share time with her, and she says they don’t HAVE to go to the Dog Park this time. (Put your tongue back in your mouth, Grandma! How RUDE!!!)

She isn’t sure who Papa is going to take. He could chose BG if they aren’t going to the park, but he is still doing “bonding time” with Pippin, because he really wants a dog that will love him like his Mist (my great-grandma) did, and will leave everyone else at night to go into the bedroom with him when he goes to bed. Pippin has started to do that lately, and it’s really made Papa happy.

We will be staying at the La Quinta in Ventura again, because they are so great to dog people. It’s too bad that the Hotel only allows TWO dogs!

Since Grammy is home almost every day, I’ve already become a “Velcro dog,” as she puts it, and she hates to disappoint me, too! Decisions, decisions… The suspense is KILLING ME! As you’ve seen, though, I’m taking it out on the deer antler and not Grammy’s shoes…

I’m doing the “mind-meld corgi stare,” and saying “You want to take ME… ME…” Newspapers? What Newspapers, Grammy? Those behind me? I've never seen them before... Look deep into my eyes... "ME... You want to take MEEEE..."

We Had 3 Winners for MMMM#3… By Gimli

Mercy told me that I could do this post for her today because Grandma OC says we have to share if we are going to keep posting on HER blog! Oh, by the way Dory, Mercy says to tell you that you should have put in an answer because it still wasn't 5 p.m. P.S.T. when you posted your comments, and you could have had your name in the pot if you had the answer!

For this week's Mystery, we had 3 super sleuths that got the answer and will be put into the Corgi Toss after MMMM#5. They are: Mango, Betty & Koda, and Rachel & Bender. Here is the Badge for MMMM#3 for your blogs.

Rachel and Bender are new to blogging, and Bender is Rachel’s corgi. We went over and sniffed out their blog, Bender the Adventure Dog, and found it to be very fun to read, and we loved looking at all the pictures of Bender. Bender also has a big, little brother named Bones, who is younger, but is bigger because he looks to be mostly golden retriever. He was a bunch of bones when rescued by Bender’s Mom, and he is also named after Dr. “Bones” McCoy from Star Trek.

It was EASY to "Sniff" out because Rachel made some Banana- Peanut Butter Dog cookies and shared the recipe on their “Sunday = Baking” blog post. If you want a good recipe, check it out! Sounds totally yummers, and we are working on Grammy to get her to make us some!

Here are the videos we promised, of us getting our treats from Yassy.

Miss Mercy’s Monday Mystery #3

It’s time to play Miss Mercy’s Monday Mystery again. Let’s see if you can sniff out the answer to Miss Mercy’s question from yesterday’s “Tidbit Post…”

What did Miss Palette find in the snow for her snow-day Picnic lunch?

The Mystery’s are posted on Monday afternoons, around 5 p.m. Pacific Time, and the answers need to be in by 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon. You have 24 hours to figure out the mystery and write a comment with your answer on this blog. We changed the rules a bit from what we had posted previously since we are already on #3 and hadn’t had any correct solutions. We figured that this would give more of our friends a chance to win, by opening it up a bit this way since we got a slow start this session:

Everyone who has the correct answer/s will be awarded a Miss Mercy Mystery badge (See the side bar), and have their name entered in the Corgi Toss that we will have at the end of MMMM #5. BG will choose the winner from all the names in that Corgi Toss, and they will receive their choice of either one of Little Dott’s Books, Little Dott Finds a Home (Click the title to read a preview of the first few pages) OR a $20 GiftCertificate to our Country Corgi CafePress Store.

Good luck everyone, and happy sleuthing!

Now for the Good News…

Today, I get to tell you about the Good News! (Unfortunately, Robert wasn’t able to get the videos uploaded today, so we will have to put those up later.) WE got a package in the mail! It was a BIG box and it smelled really GOOD! It was from Yassy’s Gourmet Dog Kitchen!

I don’t know if you remember, but Yassy’s corgi, Palette, is the taste tester (what a GRRREAT JOB for a corgi!) and they have some of the most WONDERUL things for dogs! Last time, we got a deer antler, and a couple of bags of Dogitos. Those are sort of like Cheetos in texture, only made from dehydrated goat, beef or sheep lungs. They are light and crunchy and totally YUMMY!

The deer antler had lasted FOREVER, even with all seven of us chewing on it all the time, so Mom wanted to get some more of them and try out some of the other things that Yassy and Palette recommend.

THIS time, she got us a medium sized regular deer antler, and an “antler with some velvet on” because she had read that those have more condroitin in them as they aren’t as hardened when they are taken, and that is good for problem joints.

She also ordered some Baguette Buffalo Liver Biscuits and some Greek Salmon Biscuits which are grain and gluten free, and handmade just before they are shipped out. She hasn’t given us any of the Salmon Biscuits yet, but the Buffalo Liver Biscuits are WONDERFUL and we all gobbled ours up right away!

Since the Free Range Brazilian Beef Trachea 6 piece pack was on sale, she got us one of those, too!!! They are like “Moo tubes” and they are just so crunchy and chewy! ABSOLUTE YUMMERS!

What is really great is that Yassy gives people/dogs that order, a free treat with each order. This time, we got a sheep trachea and a dehydrated Rabbit’s ear, too!

Mom gave ME the sheep trachea (more good for the joints stuff) and Mercy snagged the rabbit’s ear from BG and split with it before the boys even saw what happened! She is sneaky that way… sort of hits like a shark and then runs outside real fast.

Mom’s been cutting up the Beef Trachea since they are so large, to make them last longer, but we are thoroughly enjoying them each time we get a piece.

ALL of us have been taking turns on the regular deer antler and even though Mom tried to keep track of the Antler with Velvet, it got ripped off and I think everyone had some of that. It’s either gone or hidden, now. It IS a lot softer and easier to chew than the regular antler which hardly looks like it’s got a dent in it yet.

If you are on facebook, you should become a fan and friend of Yassy and Miss Palette, her corgi, because they are a great pair, and share some interesting info. She also has a special coupon code that you can get that way and save money on her dog treats! Doesn't Palette look like ME?!

Grammy just loves reading Yassy’s blog, too, because it has videos of Palette, stories about her and other interesting dog info, and also stories about Japanese cooking and culture. Here is an example of her blog about Palette having fun in the snow… Hey, Angela, Yassy and Palette live in Virginia somewhere, too! I know you are in WEST Virginia, but I'm used to California distances, so you're probably pretty close...

Gimli: Would you believe what Grammy did to my EAR?! She put DUCT TAPE on it! She tried several other types of tape, but I always managed to get it off. She is really determined to give my ear a chance to stand up and stay there. 

Mercy:
SOMEBODY/s have been digging, and Grammy is NOT happy…

Pippin:
Go AWAY!!! Can’t you see I’m trying to sleep here and don’t need bright lights flashing me in the face!

Dott: Peek-A-Boo… Do you see me peeking out of my Dad’s door that he decorated with corgi calendar pictures?

BG: Can I help it if I like to sleep with my legs all stiff?

P.S. Miss Mercy's Monday Mystery will be posted around 5 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday afternoons, and answers will be accepted for 24 hours... until Tuesday afternoons at 5 p.m. Pacific Time...

Bad News and Good News... By OC

First, for the Bad News... The other day, the cows came down onto the hill behind our pasture while Mom went out to feed the horses. She came in and got Robert so that he could go out and take pictures, and wouldn’t let us out of the yard so that no one would get a chance to chase those noisy, mooing cows.

While she was feeding, and Robert was trying to get close enough to get some
pictures without them running off, someone started a big fight. They didn’t see it, and I’m not telling who, though it COULD have been Sadie. I would never admit it if it was ME.

Since they were so far away, it took several minutes for them to get back and into the yard, and I was screaming and so was one of the pups… probably Mercy, as she went running into the house. (She doesn’t like fights, unless SHE instigates them… as in, STAY AWAY from MY bone, flip, biscuit, food, etc. !)

By the time Robert ran all the way back in from the side pasture, Mom had limped in from the corrals, and Robert got Sadie away from me and into the front yard and the gate shut, I had a VERY bloody ear!

Mom was shaking because she was so scared that I’d been hurt badly, but I was just TICKED and wanted to get my teeth into Sadie! Robert put me up on the table in the back yard, and got the medical stuff out.

Mom cleaned me up, disinfected the tear on the edge of my ear and the gash inside, and then put on some antibiotic ointment. I’ve been even more stiff than usual the past day or so, too.

They had done a quick scan of everyone else and didn’t see any injuries, but after they finished fixing up my ear, they did a more thorough check of everyone else and still didn’t see any injuries on anyone. BG apparently pulled a muscle though, because he’s been limping on his hind leg since then.

Ooops... It's getting late, and Mom wants to go to bed, so I'll have to tell you the good news next time! (Hint: It came in the mail and smelled REALLY GOOD!)

Did we have a Winner? By Mercy

The Miss Mercy Monday Mystery is a game to see who can sniff through the clues and come up with the correct answers to WIN!!! If we have more than one pup/person who gets all the answers, then we will have a Corgi Toss to chose the winner.

There were three questions to answer this week to solve the mystery: 1. What was the contraption in the picture, 2. Who used it, and 3. Why?

Remember, the clues to the answer were in the Tidbit Post. There was a link to our post about the 100 Dog Year Squirrel War, and there was this picture with the name, who used it and why: “Our battle [with the squirrels] started way back, in the days of cat –i– pults and tre-bow-shays, with Grandpa Buddy and Grandma Misty manning the huge “feline” flinging machines.” 1. It was a cat-a-pult or tre-bow-shay 2. Buddy & Misty 3. To fling things at the squirrels [in the fight…].

Mango, Khyra, Dory, and Dozer all got the answer to the first question right on the name of the machine. No one got the second question’s answer correct. I would have taken Buddy, Mist, JR, or even OC as they were all involved in this era of the war.

Twinkietinydog, Betty & Koda from A Corgi in S. California, and Dory all got the third answer by saying that it was used for fighting squirrels.

Dory came the closest, because she got two of the three answers needed, but this isn’t horseshoes (that’s a people joke about getting close and has NOTHING to do with real horse’s shoes) so no cigar (which is ANOTHER people joke, but I don’t even think THAT’s very funny because who would want to win one of THOSE nasty things!) Our prizes will be better than cigars, believe ME… and you also get awarded one of our MMMM Winner buttons which you can see in the side bar!

I did go back and leave a comment with a hint in it to try to help… I’m sorry we didn’t have a winner this week either, but better luck next time, and maybe, with these two practices, we will award a prize next time. We might not have a Mystery contest every week, once we get our first winner. We might go to every other Monday after that.

After we have 5 winners, we will do a Corgi Toss of those names and the grand prize will be the winner’s choice of, EITHER one of Dott’s books (See a preview of the first few pages HERE or click the preview button in our sidebar), OR a $20 gift certificate to our Country Corgi CafePress store.

We hope you will join us on our next Miss Mercy Monday Mystery, and good luck to you all!

Miss Mercy Mystery Monday #2

Did you see our “Tidbit” Post the last time? Let’s see if you can put together one of THOSE “tidbits” with this picture today to figure out my “Miss Mercy Mystery Monday” mystery. What do YOU think this is? Do you think you know who used this and why? The ones with the right answers will get to be in a Corgi Toss, and we will see who BG chooses to be the winner!
