Back to Business as Usual...

Hey, Mango. You must really be getting famous! Dad just came home with a bottle of alligator’s ade that is named after you! Just thought you’d like to know. Mom seems to like it. She also likes a fruit that is named after you, and it’s not bad. She gave me a little taste this weekend.

Well, it was an interesting weekend. That oldest son of Mom’s came and stayed here for a couple of days. I know it made Mom really happy to have him here. He seemed kind of nice. He petted Mama OC and me a lot, and even Sadie, but Dott was pretty stuck up about it. It was a little weird seeing someone that looked so much like Dad running around.

Mom says it’s her Chi showing up. She oofed and oofed under her breath and wouldn’t let him touch her… silly girl! She missed all the petting and treats that the rest of us got, though he did toss her a few pieces.

Sunday, we went into town and Mom got to see 3 more of her 6 kids and 5 of her 14 grandkids. I think she had a good Mother’s Day. I wished Mama OC a good Mother’s Day, too.

Yesterday, Mom’s son went back to Vegas to catch a plane back to Florida. She heard he got back safely today, and that made her feel better. She was kind of sick last night with an upset stomach. Al least we got to eat some of her crab legs and BBQ ribs because she didn’t want them…. YUMMY!!! She stayed in bed late this morning, too, so Dotty went in and laid down with her.

Today, it was back to the diet… our regular crunchies and some carrots. I think I like being “spoiled” MUCH better!!! Mom says I’m “waisting away”… I actually have a waist now. She seems to think that is a good thing.

Poor Auntie was on the short list today several times. Mom caught her up on the waterbed eating the jerky off of the tall shelf, when she’s told her before not to do that. She had to stay outside for a time-out for awhile, and when Mom chased her outside, she found that Auntie Sadie had also gotten into her purse and taken out a bag of the snacks she keeps in there for her grandkids. While she was outside, Sadie caught a young, part grown dove for her breakfast. Mom wasn’t to happy when she carried THAT into the house either, and took it away from her.

Mama was ready to “Woop up on Auntie…” when she heard Mom getting after her, so SHE had to stay in the Frontroom with the door shut for a while, too.

Me and Dott were really good, though and stayed back out of the line of fire, just peeking out until Mom called us and told us we were good dogs and then we came wiggling all the way over to her and got petted and some treats for being so good. I think it’s smarter to be good!

Bummer NIGHT as well...

Not only was it a bummer day, Friday, but also a bummer night. We had a big storm with lots of wind and those noisy white snakes that dance across the sky with their big old drums that make so much noise.

Mom says their names are Thunder and Lightening. I’m sure glad that Dad was here when THAT dance started. Those old drums hurt the ears!!!

Robert got all wet when he was unloading the car, and Mom got the groceries put up, everyone fed (from the shopping, luckily, so it was fast). About the time she was half done, the lights went out. She was NOT HAPPY because she had just turned on the computer, and had planned a good two hours of work on it. Apparently, when the white snakes dance, they sometimes steal your lights.

Robert and Dad had to hunt around in the dark, because our emergency backup light didn’t work, and find the flashlights so they could light up canned dulls. THAT was interesting because they don’t smell dull at all! They sort of smell like food or flowers!

Mom went out and fed the horses during a break in the sprinkles, using her flashlight, and then everyone got ready for bed, because when Dad called the light people, they said it would be most of the night before we got our lights back. Now it would have been interesting to go out and watch them chase those noisy dancing snakes down…

The next day was much better because we got to go into town with everyone and let Mom's grandkids, and nieces color eggs. I LOVE little kids, though Dott doesn't care for them except Little Bear. One was my first master's daughter, and we had gotten really close when he had me before he had to give me back, and I wiggled all over my whole body when I got to see her and play with her again.

They hide them and sometimes don’t find all of them, and we get a treat of stinky egg if we find one later on. MMMmmm mmmm!

Bummer Day!

Yesterday started out as a Bummer, and stayed that way ALL DAY! It had been kind of windy and rainy all night, but there was a bit of sun shining through the clouds by mid-morning and we all thought that we would be able to get our morning run with Robert while he walked out to the post office box to get the mail. It is almost a quarter of a mile walk, and he almost always takes us so that we can run and play in the front pasture.

Well, he started to call all of us out to go with him, and then he saw that, Dancer, the crazy young Arab, had somehow gotten out and our front driveway gate was closed, which means that he had gone visiting to the neighbor’s and they’d had to bring him home. He didn’t want any of us to get hurt or spook Dancer, so we HAD TO STAY IN THE HOUSE, instead of go on the walk! Awooooo! NOT FAIR!

He got the mail and then had to chase Dancer back up the driveway and put him back in the pasture. The funny thing, he told Mom, is that none of the gates were open, and the fence was up with no breaks, so they can’t figure out how he got out. They are really hoping that he hasn’t learned how to jump because Mom says he could get badly hurt if he doesn’t clear the barbed wire fence we have.

After that, they had to rush around to get ready to go on a road trip out to the big town. Something about “paperwork” and tack ez, and more “paperwork” for dis-agility retired-mints, and then shopping. I normally get to go shopping when they go, but they said that the paperwork stops meant I’d be in the car too long. I could tell Mom thought about it, and I did my best “sad, please take me,” look, but Robert talked her out of it… RATS!!!

I know what “paperwork” around here is, but we haven’t had to do any of that since we got old enough to use the doggy door. I know Mom doesn’t use paper for her work either… No one has said anything about agility around here for us, though Mom used to say Auntie Sadie would have made a good agility dog, and Robert says that Dott would be too. I would have been glad to retire some mints if she had any! Mom’s going to order my “Helper Dog” tags and then I should get to go most places with her…

Anyway, they were gone all afternoon. At least Dad got home late in the afternoon, but he was tired and by then it was really raining, so we still didn’t get to go out. He did try to play with me a little bit, but Mama always makes so much noise and everyone else wants to play too, so we get in a big argument, and then he quits playing before we have a fight. At least I got to snuggle with him for awhile.

The day wasn’t a TOTAL bust because Mom brought home chicken, carrots and rawhide chewies to bribe her way back into our good graces… Now who can hold a grudge for long with that kind of bribe?! NOT ME, that’s for sure!

Mmmm... Lots of GOOD Food!

Mmmm… We went into town today to Mimi’s house and then to Naunie’s house. (Grammy's sisters live next door to each other.) Grammy cooked some potatoes and cabbage to add to Mimi’s Corned Beef, and we took that to Naunie’s, who had also cooked Corned Beef, but she baked hers with a mustard and brown sugar glaze. It smelled so GOOD!!!

They also had green lemon meringue pie and green tinged peach cobbler… THAT was weird, but tasted pretty good! Wish we’d gotten more than a little taste!!! I don’t know what this St. Patrick’s Day thing is about, but it has something to do with green and lots of good food.

At first, we weren’t allowed over to Naunie’s because she has a relative that doesn’t like dogs… I never knew there were people like that!!! And I heard he was an old cowboy that used to rope at rodeos, too, so you’d think he would like animals. Strange! He left soon after dinner, though, to go watch the kids at their softball practice, so Mimi, Naunie, and Grammy let us come in and gave us some of the leftovers while they were cleaning off the plates… That corned beef was whisker lickin’ good!!!

Tomorrow we get to go back to town because Grammy has another funeral to attend… These things make Grammy so sad, I’m not sure I understand why she goes to them. Grammy says this lady was her Sunday School teacher for many years and one of HER Mom’s best friends. She had a laugh that made everyone smile. She says that she
needs to support the lady’s family and be with the people that loved her, but that at least she knows the lady is happy and in Heaven so she has a “blessed hope…”

I’m still working on a way to get to go with Papa and Grammy when they leave this weekend (if they get to go…)
