We Got in Trouble…

Ooops... Auntie Sadie and I got in trouble this afternoon. Today was such a BEAUTIFUL day, weather-wise. Really nice and cool compared to what it has been. It only got up to 80 degrees and there was a nice, cool breeze blowing.

Late this afternoon, Mom decided to take us out for a nice long walk in the side pastures. We ran and played, and did squirrel patrol, of course. It was really great! THEN…. we flushed a RABBIT out from under that old Dart car out there!

The chase was ON! Mom let us run across the side pasture AND the back pasture, and then whistled and called us to come back just before we hit the other side of the back pasture, behind the neighbor dog’s property.

Mama OC had only gotten about a quarter of the way across the back pasture, and she turned around and came back right away. Dott got just under the fence, but then decided she had better come back too.

About that time, the neighbor dogs got almost up to the top corner of their property where we were and started to yell at us. We WEREN’T even IN their property line… just behind it… at that point… They turned and headed toward where Dott was coming back down the fence line on our side of the fence, so Sadie took out through their back barbed wire fence and got between them and Dott.

Yes, Mom, I KNOW that the fence back there wouldn’t let them come through and get Dott at that point, but since Sadie was over there and it was three to one, I COULDN’T let her fight it out ALONE, could I?

Yes, I HEARD you calling me… remember, I turned and started to come back, but then they attacked Sadie again, so I HAD to go back!

Anyway, we finally convinced them to leave us alone and we came back. Mom had about lost her voice by then though, and she was pretty HOT, and I don’t mean temperature-wise. We had to get back in the yard, and she is talking about grounding Sadie and I for awhile. She did that a few weeks ago when we had our last fight, and we’ve stuck pretty close to her since then.

It really was all that RABBIT’S fault! We wouldn’t have been over there if it hadn’t run over that way!...

Well, actually, it was more those nasty neighbor dog’s fault. We weren’t on their property until they tried to get at Dott…

Would you believe, Mom should have called us back from half way across our back pasture instead of waiting until we were all the way across? Hmmm… Ok, OK!!! WE broke the rules, and we are sorry. WHAT do you MEAN, we are STILL GROUNDED?! Grrr… You better quit laughing, Dott…
Note from Mom: Fight pics were taken by Robert during that LAST fight BG mentioned... I was to busy yelling to take pictures!!! Robert can yell AND take pictures...

Injured Hero…

Yesterday my son, BG, saved me from those nasty neighbor dogs. They’ve been a pain for quite a while, but Robert had been able to yell at them and get them to go home over the past couple of years if they came out. A month or so ago, they added a new half-grown Australian Cattle Dog to the mix. He is a real pain, and doesn’t listen very well… even to his own people.

Anyway, when we went out for our mail run with Robert, I wasn’t feeling real chipper (stormy weather has moved in and I’ve gotten stiff).

I only walked down about halfway to the box, then sat down to wait for the others to come back. Robert didn’t notice because he was watching them and getting the mail.

The neighbor dogs saw me there by myself, and decided to come across to attack me! Robert turned when he heard them coming and started to yell at them, and that got Sadie’s and my pup’s attention. They all turned and headed back toward me at full speed.

BG and Sadie saw that to head them off before they got to me, they would have to break the rules and go through the fence. They ducked through in a big hurry, and cut those mean dogs off, just before they got to the fence line… about 15 feet from me.

The two older ones saw BG and Sadie closing in and Robert right behind them, and decided to head for home. The young one stopped, undecided for a few minutes, which gave Robert a chance to get close enough to make him decide to follow the others.
We came on home and a little later, Robert noticed that BG had gotten a gash from the barbed wire when he had gone through. We looked at the pictures he had taken and could clearly see it on some of them when we enlarged them. It had sliced him on his left hip, clear through his skin and was about an inch and a half long.
Out here in the country, Mom has had to learn to do first aid and minor surgeries. She had to do a little surgery on Beeg. She cleaned up, disinfected, shaved the wound, deadened the area with a topical, and then put in a couple of stitches. He will be taking penicillin for the next week, and is not to happy about the pair of modified underwear that he has to wear to keep him out of the wound.

I am so proud of him… and even little Dott was ready to fight them (as usual). The two are really big Australian Shepherds… about 3 times BG’s size and 6-7 times Dott’s. I suppose I should thank Sadie… sort of… but I think that Robert did enough of that, so I probably won’t.

Mom was really proud and happy with BG because he laid so still and was so good during all the things she had to do to get him fixed up. The only time he wiggled was each time she bit him in the butt with the needle, but that was really quick both times and he laid very still while she tied the stitches.

I wanted to show the details, but she and Robert were to busy to take any pictures until after everything was done. BG isn’t to happy with his new britches, but Mom doesn’t want him to pull on his stitches.

Mediator…

Grammy’s got a new thing called a scale, but it doesn’t look like it belongs on either a fish OR a lizard.

Apparently, if you stand on it, it will tell you how much you weigh, and since Mama OC and BG are on diets, they have to use it every once in a while.

Robert is being pretty good about it, and takes us for our morning mail-run walk (so we can get anything out of us that might need to come out) before we weigh.
He says that will help... especially when we get all worked up if the neighbor dogs threaten!

They weigh us by having Robert weigh, and then he picks us up and holds us while Grammy looks at the scale.

They weighed me first. I don’t have any problems with my weight. They all say I eat birds, which I don’t unless Auntie catches one and shares…Mmm… maybe what they said was “like a bird.” I think I've just got a “discerning palette.” Grammy says I’m just totally picky. Check out this svelte body...

BG checked out the scale pretty closely, and then had his turn.
He’s not called “Chunky Butt” around here for nothing!

Anyway, Mama was grumbling about having to be weighed, and Auntie was kind of “snickering” in the background, which REALLY ticked Mama off. BG tried to distract Auntie and get her to play with him, but Mama was already ready to chew Auntie’s face off when Robert put her back down.

BG and I almost got things calmed down between Mama and Auntie… until Auntie reached over and said something into Mama’s ear.

I had to get between them so that Mama wouldn’t totally go off on Auntie. I did my best to distract Auntie so that she would quit teasing Mama, and I talked to them both until they decided to drop it.

I did my best to distract Auntie so that she would quit teasing Mama, and at least there wasn’t a big fight. Aren’t you proud of me?
