A Country Corgi’s Day…

This morning started out with a mail run for me and Mercy. Dad (Robert) lets us go with him when he goes down to get the mail because we listen to him even when those neighbor dogs come out and yell nasty things at us.  We get a bit excited...

First, of course, we must leave peemail…  and do a quick check on the enemy's position...

Then we head down the drive to the mailbox…

Double check the position of the enemy…

Ooooo! Check out that double rainbow!

Wow! The grain hay our neighbor planted for us is starting to sprout!

After GrandPaw got the mail, we noticed some kind of critter – probably a ground squirrel or chipmunk- had a new hole in the dirt by the driveway…

It’s still in there! I’ll get it!

I’m going in!

Mom! GrandPaw is calling us. We’d better get going.

Daaaadddd… I wasn’t finished yet!

Dad… I am NOT happy with you calling us in before I caught that critter!

I’m going to go chew on a rawhide and pretend IT’S the critter!

Later, we went out back so Dad could let Cory out of his pen.

Tuffy had been up the hill grazing, and came charging down when he saw Cory loose!

Pip got in his way and got his foot stepped on! He was really lucky he wasn’t hurt badly, but he tucked and rolled as Tuffy thundered over him. Grammy checked for broken bones and didn't find any, so she put frozen Otter Pops around his leg and wrapped it. She held him for about an hour, wrapped in a blanket, to keep him from getting shocky since he was shivering. After he settled, he went in and laid on the bed for several hours, then chewed off the bandage that held those frozen things on his leg and just barely has a limp now.

This evening, while Grammy was getting ready to hang up Papa’s work clothing in the little closet in the living room, she got a surprise. Apparently a country critter decided that it’s been to cold to stay outside, so it came in and decided to stay in the closet for a while. SURPRISE!

Grammy double checked it’s tail and then decided that it could stay since it will take care of any mice that might decide to live in that closet.

Well, have a good day! We did! Except, maybe, Grammy...

Gimli Meets the Horses…

I’m ready to start herding these big old horses! Bet I can make them move!

Grammy is going to bed early as her tummy is getting really upset, so this is all we have time for tonight. We hope she is feeling better tomorrow!

Our First Squirrel Patrol!!! ... by Gimli

Grammy said that we could go on our first squirrel patrol because we have learned to come when we are called! This is going to be such a BLAST!

We have gotten out of the yard before and been allowed to go around the big yards that Grammy calls corrals.

We’ve gotten to meet the big horses when they have been eating, too, but we hadn’t gotten a chance to do a FULL SCALE Squirrel Patrol before!

Boy, were we EXCITED!!!! First, Mama and Grandma OC said we needed to check under and around the Tackroom. Pippin got a little ahead of himself and ended up running around in circle because he was so excited! Mercy had to get him back on track.

When BG called the “All Clear…” we headed out to the side pasture to check the big ditch. You can see just a tiny bit of green starting to come up because of all the rain we’ve had. We ran around checking all the bushes and the holes down there, following our teachers.

We ended up getting a little bit ahead of our teachers, and went up on the hill on the other side of the ditch, so Grammy did a “Recall!” We came running back really fast, and she gave us treats just like she’s been doing every time we come when we are called… then, because we came back so good, we got to go back to the patrol.

Grandma OC was getting pretty tired coming back up the side of the ditch and stayed pretty close to Grammy the rest of the time. Mama Dott got convinced that there was something in an old barrel that was down in the ditch, and called all of us over, but we couldn’t get whatever it was out, so finally gave up.

We went on down the ditch toward the front pasture, but since Grandma OC was so tired, Grammy called us back and said that we were doing really good, but we needed to go in. (We are supposed to sit when we come back to Grammy, but she was kind of easy on us THIS time because we had come back so good when we were called.)

We came in kind of slow because Grammy and Grandma OC were tired, but we followed them really good, and finally got all the way back. Mercy didn’t want to come in when the rest of us did, and it took them another minute or two to convince her… GrandPaw Robert even used the “N” word (No) AND the “BD” words (BAD DOG) before she finally decided she’d better listen or he might come after her. She still got her treat when she DID come, but we’d gotten several by then, while they were trying to convince her, so that wasn’t to bad for us.

We went and started playing with Unca BG and our favorite toy while they convinced her. (Grammy says Mercy has a mind of her own, and she’s going to have to keep an eye on her!)

Well, I hope that you enjoyed joining us on our very FIRST SQUIRREL PATROL!!! WE sure had a lot of fun, but were totally wiped and took a long nap after our return!

Treasure Hunt…by Gimli

NOTE from Grammy:  We have been warned that there will be a BIG storm over most of this week and they are saying lots of rain and even snow - which is a once every 4-5 year thing usually. Anyway, our telephone wiring is not in great shape and when it gets really wet it often won't let us online, so if we disappear this next week, THAT is why. Maybe THIS time, they will decide to run new wiring like they've told us they should for the past 4-5 years!!!

Guess WHAT!!! We got to go on a TREASURE HUNT!!!

Da man wit the dress thingy (chaps), came again today to chew on the horse’s feet with these big clipper things.

He spit out little chunks on the ground, and after he left, Grammy and GrandPaw let us all out so we could do a treasure hunt and find dem.

Boy! Was WE excited when dey FINALLY let us out!!!

We ranned all ober the place looking, but den we noticed dat Grandma OC, Mama Dot, Unca BG, and Auntie Sadie had found a bunch of dem, so we ranned ober and found ourselves some, too!

We all got some little chunks… Talk about TASTY!!!

Den we went out and runned on the hills and in da BIG dich.

Grandma OC got real tired, so we had to go in.

We checked all the horse apple patches and when I was doin dat in old Cory’s pen, Grammy called us to go in.

I came runnin like I’s supposed to, and, you know what?

Somebody’d dug a hole and filled it wit water! (Dey said dey do that to soak Cory’s feet cause dey are to hard for da man to cut if dey don’t)

I didn’t know that dey had done dat, and next ting I knowed, I was chest deep in water! Akshully, it was kinda fun, but Grammy and GrandPaw didn’t seem to think so!

Don’t know what’s der problem cause it dries and falls off after awhile anyways…

(Grammy: Oh, Gimli.... I'm ready to teach you a NEW word.... it's BATH!)

We’ve Got Such Wonderful Friends!

Today, we thought we would talk about some of the wonderful friends that we have made from our blogging!

Our VERY FIRST friend that ever left us a comment was Koda’s Mom, Betty, from A Corgi in Southern California.
She has been a true friend and followed us from the beginning of our time here on Blogger! It was through her encouragement and help that we stuck with it those first weeks of not knowing anyone, etc. She has introduced us to several other friends, and is an inspiration to us all the time.

Of course, who doesn’t know Mango , Dozer , or Khyra? These anipals are wonderful to have as friends, and they are so helpful and uplifting too! You’ll almost always get a smile, though sometimes you’ll find a tear or two, in their blogs as they share and care about so many of their anipals! Mom has been working on pictures of Dozer and Mango (with permission) for the Fair. (Mango's pic wasn't quite done yet when this scan was taken...)

Another two of our long time followers is Classy Chassy from Expressly Corgi, and CorgiDogMama from Corgi Dog News. They have such interesting blogs with various animals, vintage items, creative ideas, and interesting info. They are quiet, soothing, peaceful places to visit... like sitting beside a mountain stream. Mom counts them as really good friends and, of course, they have corgis, too.

By the way, speaking of Corgi Blogs, Gibson’s Mom, Kelly, over at Corgi Butts
is putting together a Corgi Calendar that will feature Corgis with Blogs. She wants people to submit their best Corgi Pics if they are interested in being on the Calendar. Their blog sites will be mentioned and any profits will go to the Lakeshore Corgi Rescue.

Another of our very best friends is Sassy Sasha , and her Mom. Sasha is a Shih Tzu like another of my Mom's sister's dogs, Mia (pictured), only Sasha is nice and we don't get along well with Mia. You should go check out the wonderful unicorn story that Sasha wrote with the help of a bunch of her Dog Bloggin’ friends. It is totally awesome! Wonderful fantasy, love for other animals, adventure, and a great moral!

Sassy and her Mom got the group story idea from another wonderful new friend named Jan Mader. This fun lady has two blogs that are both wonderful to read. Animal Talk,
is about her horse, Tango, her dogs, and other animals that she knows and loves. Her other blog, Ignite to Write , is an awesome blog with lots of fun games for her readers to share in with their comments. “Try it… You’ll Like IT!!!”

Another blog you might like if you like to write poetry and/or short stories and want to post them someplace other than your own blog is at Maya's blog, The (W)riting Room. This young friend is very talented and wants to share her blog with other writers. She lives in Australia. Mom posts some of her poetry and drawings there sometimes.

We’ve got other awesome friends “across the pond,” too! Martha and Bailey Basset are great friends. We love taking the tours of Scotland that they host for us, and Clive the Autism Assistant Dog from Ireland inspires me to do MY best as a helper dog, as he cares for his "Little Man." Their blogs give us a chance to learn about their countries and people. Isn't blogging and finding friends around the world NEAT!

We've got another corgi friend named Benny who recently moved to California from Japan! We’ve got so many friends out there that there is no way to name you all, but we appreciate each and every one of you! Twix, Coco, Tank, Hawk, Cooper Creek Cardigans, Infrared Goggles (and her corgi, Teggy)… the list goes on and on!

We sniffed our way over to see Brutus, our newest blogging friend, today. He is a tough French Bulldog, and he has some neat rescue greyhound friends. He had a video of his ant hunting and so we are awarding him Dott’s Mighty Hunter Award
for ant killing. Congratulations, Mighty Hunter!
