Day at the Doctor’s…

Today I got to go with Mom on her appointments in the big town while Dott and Mama OC had to stay home. It was a long drive and I had to wear my Service Dog Pack once we got there, but at least I got to go.

When we got there, Mom pushed a button, a couple of doors slid apart, and we went into a little room. Mom pushed another button and the doors slid shut. Then, and you might not believe this, the room felt like it moved and when the doors slid open, we were in a different place! THAT was really weird!

We walked into a place called an office and I sat under Mom’s chair while we waited for the doctor. It was kind of interesting because there were a lot of different people that came and went. There were even a few kids there. A lot of them looked at me and smiled, but I stayed right where I was supposed to and was very quiet, but my nose, eyes and ears were going full speed!

We waited a long time and then went into another little room where I sat under another chair that Mom sat in. There were only a couple of people that came into that room. The lady liked me. She talked to Mom for awhile and then left and the Doctor came in. He filled out the papers Mom needed, then left for a few minutes. When he came back in, I did one little woof, and he was surprised because he hadn’t even known that I was in there. Mom told me to hush and I did, but he had surprised me when he came in suddenly.

I did everything exactly the way I was supposed to, and Mom said that she was really proud of me. This is the first time that I had gone to an office with her. I was able to pick up a few things for her, and she said I did my job just right.

After we went to her old boss’s office and dropped off the papers, we went to visit the strange lady that Dad calls HIS Auntie. She is VERY old and either Dad or Robert go each week to take her food and money, and to be sure that she is ok. Dad takes care of her bills for her. She is what Mom calls “ick send trick.” We had stopped at an Arby’s to get her some sandwiches, and Mom got one for Robert, her and me to share… Yummy!

When we were done with that visit, we started home, and stopped at a Jack in the Box to get a late lunch. They got me a WHOLE burger, plain, and a glass of water. I also got a bite of Mom’s taco meat. I think I LIKE going with Mom to do my job!

Mama OC was NOT happy when we got home. She yelled at Mom for a good 5 minutes, while Mom tried to talk to her and explain. She really wasn’t in the mood to listen very well. She wasn’t real happy to smell hamburger on my breath, either. Mom finally calmed her down with some chicken jerky, and taking us out to run while the horses ate.

Mom came in and made dinner for Dad and then she cooked up some special food for Dott since she is getting quite picky. It had hamburger, a few chicken livers, rice, broccoli and cheese in it, and Dott scarfed every bit that she was given! Robert said it looked so good that he would eat it except for the chicken livers.

Robert took a few pictures of “his baby’s belly” for you to see.

I don’t think Dott was real happy about that!

They are pretty sure, now, that she is going to be a mother in about a week and a half… Friday or Saturday after next is when they think that will happen.

Well, that was our day… Hope you had a nice day, too!

We Got in Trouble…

Ooops... Auntie Sadie and I got in trouble this afternoon. Today was such a BEAUTIFUL day, weather-wise. Really nice and cool compared to what it has been. It only got up to 80 degrees and there was a nice, cool breeze blowing.

Late this afternoon, Mom decided to take us out for a nice long walk in the side pastures. We ran and played, and did squirrel patrol, of course. It was really great! THEN…. we flushed a RABBIT out from under that old Dart car out there!

The chase was ON! Mom let us run across the side pasture AND the back pasture, and then whistled and called us to come back just before we hit the other side of the back pasture, behind the neighbor dog’s property.

Mama OC had only gotten about a quarter of the way across the back pasture, and she turned around and came back right away. Dott got just under the fence, but then decided she had better come back too.

About that time, the neighbor dogs got almost up to the top corner of their property where we were and started to yell at us. We WEREN’T even IN their property line… just behind it… at that point… They turned and headed toward where Dott was coming back down the fence line on our side of the fence, so Sadie took out through their back barbed wire fence and got between them and Dott.

Yes, Mom, I KNOW that the fence back there wouldn’t let them come through and get Dott at that point, but since Sadie was over there and it was three to one, I COULDN’T let her fight it out ALONE, could I?

Yes, I HEARD you calling me… remember, I turned and started to come back, but then they attacked Sadie again, so I HAD to go back!

Anyway, we finally convinced them to leave us alone and we came back. Mom had about lost her voice by then though, and she was pretty HOT, and I don’t mean temperature-wise. We had to get back in the yard, and she is talking about grounding Sadie and I for awhile. She did that a few weeks ago when we had our last fight, and we’ve stuck pretty close to her since then.

It really was all that RABBIT’S fault! We wouldn’t have been over there if it hadn’t run over that way!...

Well, actually, it was more those nasty neighbor dog’s fault. We weren’t on their property until they tried to get at Dott…

Would you believe, Mom should have called us back from half way across our back pasture instead of waiting until we were all the way across? Hmmm… Ok, OK!!! WE broke the rules, and we are sorry. WHAT do you MEAN, we are STILL GROUNDED?! Grrr… You better quit laughing, Dott…
Note from Mom: Fight pics were taken by Robert during that LAST fight BG mentioned... I was to busy yelling to take pictures!!! Robert can yell AND take pictures...

OC Notes on This Camping Trip

Hi, all you tail wagers and blogging pooches! I’ve let the pups do a lot of my blogging for me lately, as this winter has really gotten me down, but I thought I’d put in a few things about our camping trip, too, after reading what the pups wrote.

Out here in Corgi Country we get a lot of freedom to do our own thing, and are a little spoiled by it all. I’d much rather get a chance to go with Mom and Dad and enjoy their company, even though I do have to wear a leash, than to stay home.

Sometimes rules can be a good thing, which young pups don’t tend to understand until they mature a little. There were some pretty undisciplined dogs out there that could have hurt us if they had not had to wear a collar and leash, so sometimes we have to put up with tighter restrictions because others, or their owners, can’t, or don’t discipline themselves. People enjoy dogs better if they are well mannered, and that is better for everyone, including the dog. That's always been mom's philosophy for both dogs and kids.

Obviously, it would have been best if the rules about being quiet after 10 p.m. would have been enforced because all of us would have been able to get more sleep, too. Mom was a little disappointed at the way some people were so disrespectful to others, but we also met some really nice people and dogs there.

One family, with three little kids, were there having a last fun weekend with their young father who is having to go to a war somewhere in a couple of weeks. I heard Mom telling Dad that they needed to pray for them even though we didn’t find out their names because God knows who they are. She said it is people like that, that are willing to lay their lives on the line for us that make this world a good place to live in.

At least the pups got to see a bit more of the world than they usually do, experience some new things and hopefully, learn some things. That is going to be important to them, and especially to BG as he learns to be a helper dog so that he can take over my job more and more. I am pretty proud of my pups, and they are growing up to be decently trained and will make me proud.

I Got Carried Away...

My turn to blog, Mama said, but first, I had to post a picture for Mango of Dott in my Napa (car parts) hat. Yes, Mango, my sister, Dotty is pretty creepy… :) Definitely doesn’t need a “creeper…”

Mom is starting to let me out when she goes out to feed the horses now. Before, she would only take Sadie, but she says that I seem to have respect for the horses, and I should be able to move fast enough to stay out of their way. I learned to keep an eye on the big animals around here when I was only a year old and a goat snuck up behind me and butted me right in the tush.

Today, Mom let us run while she did some maintenance on the horses… They are already starting to shed, and she thinks they looked a bit scruffy, so she worked on them with the shedder tool, while we got to run around and play. We managed to spook a “fuzzy,” as Dott calls them, out of the woodpile, and took off after it. Mom wasn’t too happy at how long it took to listen to her yells and get back to her.

It was Dott’s fault! I just got carried away in the passion of the moment… When Auntie Sadie and Dott split with that little yip of Dott’s goin’, I just couldn’t help myself. Dott came back all proud of herself, but I could tell Mom was ticked, and circled pretty wide while she used the “B-D words (Bad Dogs)” on us, but Dott just wiggled up to her and dropped and rolled over and batted her eyes, so Mom forgave her, (What a kiss up !!!) and then I knew it was safe to come over, too.

Mom says that she will just have to leave Dott in the yard tomorrow, again. She told me, really sternly, that I better listen better, or she was going to leave me in there, too. I hope she could tell that I, at least, was suitably sorry, so I don’t get shut up tomorrow, too.

Robert says it’s not HIS little, sweet Dott, that causes the problem… it’s our Auntie Sadie that leads us astray. He spoils Dott sumpthin’ awful!!!

Mom is a pretty forgiving person, but we DO have to listen, and be obedient, or we will get in trouble. She says it is because she loves us that we have to follow her rules. I guess she IS wiser than us, though sometimes it is just so much fun to do things that we know we shouldn’t. So far, nothing really bad has happened… still, I guess it COULD be a major problem if that coyote came out and we were too far away from home, or out on the hill where she might catch us by sneaking up in all the sagebrush.

I guess I’ll try to listen to Mom better… sometimes, though, it seems so hard when everyone else is doing stuff that looks like so much fun. She says that Sadie is bigger, older, more experienced. That is why she gets to do more than we do, and when we get wiser and more obedient, then we will get to do more, too. It’s so hard to wait, though…
