Goodbye, Mama OC…

We are very sad around here. Grandma OC went to the Rainbow Bridge this afternoon at about 1:30 p.m. We will miss her...

My Dearest OC,

I love you with all my heart. I was there when you were born, and watched you grow and learn to be the wonderful helper dog you were to me throughout your life. You've been there for me all these years, loving me and helping me when I couldn't do so many things for myself. When you went down into your wheelchair and then into being totally bedridden these past several months, I was happy to be able to give back a little of the care you gave me.
When the Big C made it hard for you to breathe this past week and the Seizure Monster came to call last night, I knew it was time, so today I took you to the Bridge so you can go to your Mama Mist and Daddy Bud and all the other friends that have gone ahead of you.

No more trouble breathing... no more pain. Run and play, chase squirrels and rabbits and enjoy the things you haven't been able to do these past few years. I will see you when I get there, my sweet corgi girl. Love, Mama

Prayer Request…

When we first started blogging, our very first blog found us two wonderful new friends. The first one to comment was Betty from A Corgi in Southern California, and the second was Nancy from Our Life: Dozer and Cooper’s blog. We have happily followed them the past few years through ups and downs, along with adding so many more of you.  We have been so blessed and have gotten close to so many through our blog.  The support we have seen from this community for everyone has been awesome, and now it is needed again.

We just found out that Koda, Betty’s corgi, has been diagnosed with Lymphoma, a type of cancer. They are going to try chemotherapy and see how things go. Some dogs have gone into permanent remission with this treatment. Please go by and read her post, and help support her with prayers for the family and for Koda.

100 Dog Years War

Thursday OWAS Report
BG reporting :

Dott is very busy perfecting her liver treat formula. She field tested it on Mango, with his permission, as a WMD, though she hasn't told anyone her exact formula. She is trying to work out how to allow for the more compact members of OWAS, like myself, to produce enough gas to be an effective weapon. We will distribute it as soon as this happens, and may be sending out test samples to test potency among differing breeds. Consider this TOP SECRET, so only those directly involved in the testing will know the truth. (Hope their masters will be tolerant!)

While the rest of us get a little R & R, I thought I would catch you up on the history of our family’s 100 Dog Year War with the squirrels. Our battle started way back, in the days of cat –i– pults and tre-bow-shays, with Grandpa Buddy and Grandma Misty manning the huge “feline” flinging machines. As they had not yet mastered photography, here is a period drawing of one of their battles. You can even see JR, the cat that thought he was a dog. He loved OC as a grand-daughter and taught her a lot when she was a pup.

Time moved on, and they mastered new technology. First, gun powder, then the combustion engine, and finally the thing that all dogs have dreamed of for millennia... FLIGHT! This was perfected around OC’s prime and here we have a photo of OC in her old fighter... notice the string of squirrels on her plane. Even at that time, she was an ace pilot.

The Dog years rolled on, like they were putting on a new perfume. We got a brave and powerful ally, when Sadie joined the ranks. She had special training in tooth to claw fighting from her youth living by herself in the wild, and her coat made her the perfect Covert Ops member.

As you may know, there has always been tension between the Air Force and Covert Ops... one likes to make a big show of the battle and fly to the rescue, while the other likes to keep things on the "down low," and make precision strikes in the heart of enemy territory. This may be a part of what fuels Mama OC’s dislike of Sadie?

The fierce battle raged on. The squirrels kept trying to take us down and our grandparents pushed back. Our Grandma Mist took her trip across the Rainbow Bridge before we were born, but Grandpa Bud told us she was a fighter to the end. This is what we were born into... this life long battle with the squirrels. Our Grandpa Bud put us through our paces from the time we were old enough to walk.

So we grew up primed and ready for action. The battle was hard fought and I think it finally got the best of Grandpa Bud. He took his trip across the Rainbow Bridge, but we bravely fought on, now with Mama OC leading us. The main problem was funding. We had to make do with what we had, even modifying other machines into our weapons of war. Notice the modifications to this old tractor...

This type of ingenuity is what earned us the title of “The C-Team.” We did what we could, until Dott stumbled upon Commander Tank’s mighty effort. We joined as quickly as possible, for the support, and as we were already running low on supplies, and we LOVE having the new technology!

Well that about raps things up… Oh yeah, I almost forgot, because Doug is here we thought we could use him in the fight. I even gave him a special bullet RESISTANT vest.

Wow... What a Day!

Today was a really stimulating day. This morning, we got a chance to go out for our morning run while Robert got the mail. That is always a blast because we have so much energy stored up from a good night’s sleep.

Dott and I gang up on Auntie Sadie and she is just so happy to be out running free that she will do what Mom calls “Monkey Tailing”… if you are a Corgi, it is called frapping.

This tends to tick off mama so she yells and screams at everyone to quit it, which tends to make Robert yell back at her to “hush up!!!” Mama talks a lot now-a-days… LOUDLY!!! Grandpa Buddy used to do that, too, the last year or so he was around. Mom wonders if that is an “older” corgi trait… something about seein’ a nillity? I think she is just frustrated cause she can’t play much anymore, herself.

Anyway, after breakfast, Mom started getting ready to go somewhere, again. She apparently had more re-tire mints papers to do. We all did our best to be totally pitiful and begged with our eyes and guess what! She let us go this time!

We were so excited when we got our collar IDs. We drove a long time and the weather was fairly nice so they left the windows down pretty far and there were all sorts of good sniffs that we passed by… cows in the fields, and especially the diarrheas with all the cows. Mom says that’s where milk comes from.
She and Robert didn’t think THOSE sniffs were very good, but that is one of Dott’s favorite perfumes. She loves it when she finds a good patty out the back of the side pasture where there have been a lot of cows on the BLM land there lately.

We went to Mom’s old office and found out that Dad had come over in his truck. They went into the building while Robert stayed in the car with us. After that, we went and got a late lunch (Mom got us a whole hamburger to share) and went to a park to eat. THAT was AWESOME!!! … except for the leashes.

There were bunches of “smack talking” fuzzies out there… fat, sassy fuzzies that had no sense at all. Just sat there in plain sight “twittering” at us… STUPID squirrels… had us all quivering and ready to attack. We know just how tasty those rascals are… NASTY thieving fuzzies! They are few and far between at home now-a-days, and I could just “taste” them… made me DROOL!!!

After eating, we all went on a walk. We saw the strangest thing out there! There were some people out there that were really stiff. They were MAJORLY WEIRD!!! Some looked scared and some looked determined. One little girl had started to go through a puzzle, and somehow got frozen in mid-step. There was a happy family at the end, but they were still frozen.

None of us trusted those weird people. Mom and Robert walked over to them and looked at them closely and read some metal papers with words about them. I guess the papers got hit with whatever froze those people. We couldn’t go to far away, since we were on leashes, or we would have “beat feet” out of there!

Dott had been there with Robert a little while before Mom came over with mama and me. She told us that she still didn’t trust them, but that they hadn’t moved the whole time she’d been there, and that her Master had even touched them.

The three of us carefully snuck up on them, ready to run at the slightest movement. We had our “Mohawk’s”, as Mom calls them, up for a while. None of them moved, and after several minutes, mama got close enough to sniff them. There were a few pee mails on them, so I guess those poor people had been frozen quite a while ago. Nothing happened, but Dott and I had to check out each one separately just to be sure they were all frozen!

I tell you, THAT was one of the most peculiar things I’ve ever seen… I’ll bet even the mighty Mango would have been “weirded out” over those frozen people, and he is the BIGGEST, mightiest dog we know of! I heard Mom and Robert talking about that strange place. Robert told Mom that it was a Cancer Memorial, and he took a lot of pictures. Mom LOVES art things… especially what she called, “statue hairy.” This also meant a lot to her because her mother lost her fight with cancer as did my grandma, Mist and grandpa, Buddy.

Dad met us at the park… he’d still had some work to take care of for a bit before coming there. He picked us up and brought us home. He took us through a car bath place, which is kind of scary, but I’m starting to get used to. It really freaked out poor Dotty, and she crouched down in the seat and shook even though Dad and I tried to tell her it was ok.

Mom and Robert had to go and meet Mom’s niece and when they came home, they were all excited about seeing the new baby move and make faces and stuff. It is some kind of new techno stuff that takes 3-D pictures of a baby when it is still inside of its mom. I guess they thought it was pretty neat.

As I said when I started, this was really an exciting day, with all kind of new things in it for all of us. I wish we could go with Mom all the time if she’s going to do such different things when she is out. Hope you had as great a day as we did!

Welcome Back...

As I mentioned yesterday, I am the matriarch of the current Corgi Crew.

My mama was named Irish Misty Fire, but everyone around here called her Mist. My daddy was called Buddy, or Butter Butt.  My human mom and dad often refer to this place as Corgi Country because they are on their third generation of Pembroke Welsh Corgi’s.

I'm the oldest Corgi around here now, as mama and daddy passed away a couple of years ago. I really missed them. My mama was a Black Tri, and passed away from cancer at the age of 10, and my daddy looked like me only heavier and more muscular, and he passed last year at the age of 12. He loved to play with his grandpups.

My mom says that I was the orneriest one in my litter, and about TORE my brother UP when we were little! That is how I got my name.

I am very smart and used to work with mama and daddy to herd the goats we had for awhile. Mom got rid of the goats when a mean one caught me with her horns up against the wall of the feed room and injured my hips. Now I work as a helper dog for mom, picking things up for her when she drops them. She says it really helps a lot since her back bothers her.

I guess they had several people waiting in line for me to have pups when I reached the proper age, but, typical of my ornery little self, I didn't like the stuck up, high falootin' Pems they found for me, and failed to produce for seven years! I think they totally despaired of me ever having pups. Well, I finally decided to sneak out and find my own “stud muffin” and made up for lost time.

I had EIGHT Chihuahua/Doxie/Corgi pups… (Chorgis is what my family calls them. ) Guess they named me Ornery Cuss appropriately, huh!   More later...
