Sunday of our Valentine’s Weekend… By Gimli

Little Bear had spent the night, so we were able to play with him Sunday morning when we all got up. Papa made breakfast while Grammy got dressed, fed us, made sure Grandma OC had taken her meds, Auntie Sadie was fed and outside in the front yard, and Kody was ready to go (His toys, clothes, etc. packed).

Grandma OC had to stay home since she is still heated up, and she was NOT happy! She couldn’t stay anywhere near Auntie Sadie without a person around to mediate any problems, so they had to be separated. The rest of us got to go… Pip and I because we haven’t been tutored yet, Uncle BG because he’s Grammy’s helper, and Dott & Mercy because GrandPaw wanted to spend as much time with them as possible before their little trip.

We took off for town so our people could go to church and we could play with Mimi’s dogs (Mama Dott and Uncle BG’s half sisters.) Our Auntie’s names are Kisses and Dolly. We visit them a lot! Kisses, is VERY little, weighing only 4 lbs. and Dolly is a little bigger and very fuzzy.

After church, Naunie, Grammy’s other sister who lives next door to Mimi, came over and they left the gate between the two yards open so that all of HER dogs could come over and visit too. She has 4 dogs… Pepper Ann, Mia, Daisy and Molly of her own and had one of the rescue dogs (Mia’s brother that looks like her) that they are taking to Gracie’s Shelter this week. That made twelve of us all together! We outnumbered the PEOPLE!

Grammy’s grandnieces came over to play with Little Bear, (They are all really close friends and love to see him when he comes down) so there was 10 people. We all had a nice lunch and the kids played with us and each other for a few hours and then it was time for us to take the long drive to take Little Bear home.

Papa had a church business meeting to attend, so GrandPaw and Grammy took Dott and Mercy and dropped them at home on the way so OC wouldn’t be so lonely, and took Little Bear and me on the 2 hour trip up to his home. Papa brought Pip and BG home after his meeting.

I got to meet Little Bear’s dogs at HIS house, so I made 3 more furiends! They have 2 black labs, Ricky and Lucy, and a little deer Chihuahua mix named Cassie. I had a lot of fun with my new friends up there as you can see in this video…

Grammy really enjoyed watching her son, Mick, playing with Little Bear, too, but I wasn’t sure for a little bit, if they weren’t playing a little bit to rough…

After Grammy visited Mick and Jenn, for about an hour, we left for the long trip home. It had been a very busy weekend for me, so I was really tired, but I sure had a lot of fun!

I Was Abducted by an ALIEN! By Dott

I watch those movies that Dad watches a lot and I must tell you that I think something really weird happened! I think that an alien took over my Dad and he became a Pod Person or something!

I KNOW my Dad would never take me someplace and LEAVE me there! I have a theory… I think that they started to take over his brain and he could tell there was something happening to him and THAT is why he was feeling and acting so weird the other night. He NEVER gets up THAT early to take me someplace, and he would NEVER LEAVE me either!

I think that during the night, THEY took over his brain, and made him dognap Mercy and me and take me to a place that is run by human looking aliens, and they did unspeakable things to me!

Those people there seemed nice, but they put us under bright lights and did something to put us to sleep. Then they CUT us open and did something to our insides, cause we had stitches when we woke up! I wonder what they did… Do you think they put something in, or take something out!?

You don’t know how happy I was, after I figured all of this out, to find out that my Dad had fought off the intruders in his brain and came and rescued me and Mercy from that place this morning! Now we are home, safe and sound. BG and Auntie Sadie have promised to keep an eye on things and not let THAT happen again!

Grammy Got a GREAT Valentine’s Present! By Pippin

Note from Grammy: Robert called the Vet's office this afternoon, and the girls were finished with their surgeries and resting well, they said...

Guess what! Papa got Grammy a GREAT Valentine’s present… AND WE got to go along! He made arrangements to go up and meet with her son, Mick and pick up Little Bear for the weekend! She was SOOOO happy!

He had GrandPaw take Gimli, me and Grammy to Bakersfield to the big Annual Central Valley Sportsmen, Boat & RV Show and meet him there! It was really something! They had the Splashdogs there, a well as Hunting Dog Training Seminars. There was a Super Cruise Car Show with a bunch of old fancy cars that GrandPaw really loved to see, too!

Gimli and I got to go because Grandma OC is heated up and they didn’t want to leave us around the house, AND they are still “socializing” us, too. Grammy wanted Gimli to get used to big crowds, too, and she said that he did a FANTASTIC job when they went into the buildings and there were so many people around.

We had an AWESOME time! First, we went to the Splashdog area. It was run by Splashdog.com, and they had a HUGE pool there in front of some “stands” that people sat on to watch. I wonder why they call them “stands” when you are supposed to SIT on them?

There were LOTS of dogs all over. Papa wouldn’t let us bark at them, though. He said we had to be quiet and polite, and not even tell them to stay away from our people! How are we supposed to protect them THAT way?

There were a LOT of people that liked us, though and we got all kinds of comments about how cute we were and they asked about what kind of dogs we were, so Grammy and Papa got to talk about our breed a lot. There were also a LOT of kids and I got to "Shake hands" alot. We got all kinds of petting all day long! THAT was pretty cool!

If you ever get a chance to go to a Splashdog Event, you should go! It was VERY interesting! As you can see from the pictures and vids, there was a big platform and the Splashdogs would climb the stairs on the side and go down to one end of the platform. They had to sit and stay there, while their person took one of their toys to the other end. When they were ready, their person would que them to “GO” and the dog would run down the platform to the edge of the pool as fast as they could and their person would THROW their toy out into the pool and the dogs would FLY out over the water and try to catch the toy!

If they missed in the air, then they would splash into the pool and swim over to the toy and get it and then swim back to a ramp at the side of the pool and climb out. They had some kind of fast camera thing that took pictures and wherever the dog’s tail base hit the water was where they measured from. The dogs that jumped the longest were the TOP SPLASHDOGS!

I think some of the dogs were fairly new at it and didn’t really want to jump into the pool very much, but they usually ended up doing it anyway because they wanted their toy back! One of the dogs would wait until his toy sunk to the bottom (about 3.5 – 4 ft.) and THEN he would jump in and DIVE down to the bottom to pick up his toy. WOW! THAT was really interesting, but I don’t know that I would want to do that!

They had said that in between jumping heats people could let their dogs try it if they wanted to, and Grammy was going to let us go and look at the water to see what we would do. I got to do that for a minute or two at the top of the ramp the dogs had climbed out of, but then she found out that you had to pay some money to try it, and since they only had enough money for Little Bear’s activities that day, they couldn’t let us try it.

There were a lot of dogs that did though, and they really seemed to have fun! Even a little Jack Russell Terrier jumped! The Splashdog people said that they are going to start having more events in this area, so maybe we will get to do it some other time. I don’t know if any of you readers out there are in the Bakersfield, CA area, but if you are, you can find out more about Splashdogs HERE.

After that, we went into a building that had places for kids to do things, and Little Bear got to shoot arrows, and go fishing! The line for the kids to fish was REALLY LONG, and so Grammy (who took her chair on its wheeled cart) sat in the line with us, while Papa took L.B. to the archery area, and then GrandPaw took him to look at all the fancy cars. We sat in that line that moved SO SLOOOOOWWWWLLYY.

It took us 2 and a half hours to get up to the front of the line, and another 45 minutes for Little Bear to catch his trout. It was kind of boring sometimes, but there were so many little kids around and we think that their parents were happy that we were there for them to pet and play with a little to distract them from the slow moving line! Grammy says that we got THOUROUGHLY socialized!

There was a really great booth in that building too, that was set up by Self Serve Pet Spa. Papa talked with the owners, David and Amy Sidhu, for quite awhile, and they were really nice. They were giving out small sample bags of natural dog food, so we got to eat a snack there, and THAT was really GREAT! They have a neat place where you can go to use professional dog bathing tubs and tools to clean your dogs and not have to break your back or clean up afterwards. The prices aren’t to bad, and Grammy says we may have to check out that place sometime. (Don’t you LOVE their logo?)

Poor Little Bear! Three trout got away before he FINALLY caught one! The kids were allowed to fish until they caught their trout, but it sure took him a long time! EVERYONE in the whole building clapped for him when he finally pulled out his prize!

Grammy was SO MAD because our camera decided that it was going to be finicky just about the time that Little Bear caught his trout! It had NEW batteries in it and everything, but it kept “locking up” and they would have to take out the batteries and put them in again to get it going again, so GrandPaw missed a lot of the catch. He got bits and pieces, but not the whole thing.

They had a place outside where they cleaned the fish for the kids that kept theirs, and put them in a bag with ice. It was pretty late by the time we finished that area, so we only looked around a little bit more, and then went to a Carl’s Jr. to get some dinner, then came home, and Grammy cooked that fish. Little Bear ate as much as he wanted, and then Grammy finished it off (She LOVES trout and doesn’t get it much). We only got a few little tastes of it. (Something about so many mouths…) It was REALLY YUMMY!!!

Gimli will tell you about our Sunday the next time! Hope you enjoyed hearing about our fun outing!

Letters from Gracie & Sprayed? By Dott

We heard from my daughter, Gracie a while back and got a picture of her the other day. The first email came around Christmas, and the second in January. What with the big trip, we’re just getting around to posting. Here is what she had to say:

From the Desk of Gracie, HSVC Mascot:

Guess what, Mama... I'm an official "Mascot" for my new Mom's Rescue place where she works here in Ojai: the Humane Society of Ventura County. Isn't that COOL!

Mom says that I am "Very Smart," because I have learned to sit at the door and wait when I need to go out or come in... usually... I still like to dig, though, and it's just so hard to remember that digging is a big "NO, NO!" I'm working on it though. (We know what you mean, Gracie. Mercy has the same problem!)

She really loves me a lot and even lets me sit on her lap sometimes when she types, so that's why I'm learning about how to send you emails! Aren't you proud of me, Mama Dott? My Mom says to tell you, Grammy and my GrandPaw thank you so much for the happiness and laughter that I've brought her and my new Dad... That's Good, Right? Love, Gracie

From the Desk of Gracie, HSVC Mascot:

Oh, Mama... I don't feel so good! My tummy hurts! I had to go to the vet's place and they made me go to sleep so I could be “sprayed?” I woke up a while ago, and didn't feel good at ALL, but now I'm feeling a little better with all the loving my Mom's giving me. She says that I'm "the love of her life." I ate a little bit and drank some water, and she says that I'm doing pretty good, and now I won't have any trouble getting heated up later.

I HAD both of my ears up when they took me, but I'm just to tired to hold both of them up right now, so came home with only one up. I'm sure I'll feel strong enough soon to start holding both of them up again. Mom is afraid that she is going to have trouble "keeping me quiet" and not letting me play for a WHOLE WEEK like the vet told her to do... THAT doesn't sound like a lot of fun!

Well, like I said, I'm not feeling too good, so I think I'll go and rest now. Tell everyone I love them, and I've got a really good home here, so don't worry about me, Mama. Your daughter, Grace.

This last makes me a bit nervous. There have been rumors going around the house that my Dad is taking Mercy and me on a little trip tomorrow. He has been VERY NERVOUS and upset and taking pills for his stomach even. He keeps petting me a lot. He says we can’t eat after dinner this evening and he is going to lock us in his room tonight. He also said that we have to get up at 6:30 a.m. to go on a little trip…

I overheard our people talking about Mercy and me going to get sprayed … I don’t like being sprayed around here if we bark too much, and I DON’T think I want to GO anywhere to get sprayed, either! ESPECIALLY if it’s making GrandPaw and Grammy so nervous!

My Dad even told Grammy that he doesn’t know what he is going to do without me in his bed tomorrow night! Why wouldn’t I be in his bed with him at night? He’s been petting on both Mercy and me a lot all day… WHAT’S GOING ON!!!

(Grammy: Please pray that all goes well... We are all MORE than a little nervous about our precious Dott having surgery. She's just come off of being in heat and we are hoping that she isn't anemic or something... We KNOW that serious problems rarely happen, but... Robert is literally sick that he has to take her and "desert" her with strangers. Mercy, too, of course. )

Ladder Training Vids… By Mercy

In my last post, I told you that we would get the videos of GrandPaw Robert teaching us to climb the ladder posted as soon as we could get them uploaded, so here they are. GrandPaw was able to get that done while Grammy (GrandPaw’s Mom) was at the doctor. She is over her tummy sickness mostly, but her foot has been bothering her a lot and she was finally able to get in to see him. He is going to send her to a foot doctor.

This first one shows GrandPaw working just with me…

I started to get the hang of it and He thought that maybe it would help me to not be so nervous if I could see Uncle BG and Mama Dott doing it. I think that he has figured out that if THEY are getting jerky, then I will try harder so that I can get some, too!

The last video shows BG, Gimli, Pippin and Sadie going up and down the new obstacle on our course.

A New Trick… by Mercy

I guess that you all saw the new trick that Gimli and BG learned while they were on their Big Road Trip. It was pretty cool, and when they got home and GrandPaw Robert found out about it, he decided that would be a good thing to add to our Obstacle Course.

First, he used the ladder that they used on the trip because it had
broader stair steps. Then he used our regular ladder at a slight slant against the table. He worked with Mama Dott mostly on that one, and just a little with us.

Finally, he decided to fixed up our regular ladder with carpet (to make it easier to grip and not so slippery.)

He attached it to the side of our Obstacle Course so that now we have THREE ways to get to the top: the ramps on each end and the ladder on the side.

Then he started trying to teach ME how to climb it. I was NOT to sure about that! (We will be posting our Ladder Training videos tomorrow after we have a chance to upload them on a faster computer in town while Grammy is at the doctor’s, but I begged Grammy to let me post MY story tonight!

I finally did it, but I wasn’t real thrilled about it! . Mama Dott & Unca BG had to show me that it really wasn’t that bad.

After that, Gimli came out and showed that he could do it, too, but that wasn’t really air because he’d had a lot of practice on their Road
Trip. Even he wasn’t real sure about coming back down, though!

Pippin swear’s that he didn’t practice on their trip, but he sure does go up that ladder pretty fast. Looks like he’s flying! Grammy says it’s probably because he is smaller
and so the steps are bigger for him in comparison to the rest of us. She says that’s also why Mama Dott makes it look so easy!

Sadie didn’t think it was very fair that we got to do tricks and get jerky and she didn’t
, so she talked Grammy into putting OC into the house and letting her try the ladder too! It only took her 2 tries to get it down pat!

After that, we had a photo shoot on the ladder. What do you think?
How do we look?
